PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ani Kwata (ranked 1679 p4p, 3621 weight class) and Rick Ross (ranked 220 p4p, 449 weight class). Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Ani Kwata!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 5 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Rick Ross!
The judges for this bout are Winston Alpacca, Daniel Franklin and Bart Greer.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ross misses with a jab, cross combination.
Ross misses with a few strikes there.
Kwata moves out of range of the body kick from Ross.
Kwata looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Ross misses with a wild combination.
Kwata uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Ross.

Kwata closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Ross quickly recovers to half guard.
Ross is looking to improve his position.

Ross actively working from the bottom here.
Ross wants to control but Kwata is keeping busy.
Kwata is trying to control. Ross wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Ross is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Ross regains full guard. Nicely done.
Kwata postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Kwata will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Ross is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Kwata defends well.

Ross looking to hit a scissor sweep but Kwata is one step ahead there.
Kwata wants to control from the top but Ross keeps moving.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Ross had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Kwata defends it easily.
Kwata distracts Ross with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.

Kwata is working Ross over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Ross is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Kwata lands a couple of digs.
Kwata trying to control the position from guard on top but Ross is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Kwata not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Kwata got a little sloppy there for a moment and Ross has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Kwata has managed to get both his arms back between Ross's legs - danger averted.

Kwata passes Ross's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Kwata is nestled in close to Ross, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Ross tries to get to full guard but Kwata has control of the leg.

Kwata takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Ross is trying to maintain the position but Kwata is very close to passing his half guard.
Kwata seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Kwata working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Ross tries to get to full guard but Kwata has control of the leg.

Ross has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Kwata can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Ross is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Ross is looking for a triangle here but Kwata uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
Kwata lands some shots froms side control.
Kwata cracks Ross with an elbow. That is naaassty.
Ross is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Ross is trying to work for a sweep but Kwata has mounted him!
Ross tries to hold on but Kwata pushes him away.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Kwata lands a couple of good shots and Ross has given up his back, trying to escape the position!
Kwata is looking to finish with some ground and pound!
Ross is trapped and Kwata is scoring with shots to the head and body.
Ross tries to escape but Kwata has the hooks in and won't let him break free.
Ani Kwata overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Kwata punches Ross on the ear.

Ross is rocked!
Kwata has his opponent trapped and is landing shots. Not a good position for Ross.
Ross is still in real trouble! Can Kwata finish him?
Ross tries to roll but Kwata sticks to his back.
Ross covers up after that shot from Kwata.
Kwata has the hooks sunk in and you can see the will to fight slowly draining out of Ross's body.
Kwata is throwing strikes from the back here. Oh that last one was to the back of the head. Kwata gets a warning from the referee. He throws another strike to the back of the head straight away though and the referee has seen enough. He breaks up the two fighters and stands them back up. Kwata gets a real talking to here and is lucky not to get a point deducted. Kwata apologises and we restart here on the feet.
We are yet to see a takedown attempt from Ross in the fight. On paper you would think he is the more dominant ground fighter so let's see if these unusual tactics pay off.

Kwata lands a huge takedown. Ross is out but the ref is slow to react and Kwata lands 3 more undefended punches before the fight is stopped. Brutal finish. Ross lies on the canvas for a good minute before the doctors bring him round. Good to see he's OK.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:43 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Ani Kwata!
