Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Blake Phoenix (ranked 322 p4p, 268 weight class) and Kento Kawamata (ranked 48 p4p, 43 weight class). The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 17 - 8 - 0, fighting out of New York, Blake Phoenix!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 28 - 15 - 0, fighting out of London, Kento Kawamata!
The judges for this bout are Taro Takaoka, Sosuke Kotani and Yasuomi Hirokawa.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Phoenix ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Kawamata moves away.
Kawamata throws a fast counter high kick but Phoenix manages to duck under it in time.
Phoenix lands an overhand right.
Phoenix takes a swing at Kawamata's ribcage but misses.
Phoenix waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Kawamata.
Kawamata scores with a kick to the midsection.
Phoenix throws a combination. Kawamata tries to block but a couple of punches get through.
Phoenix fails in his attempt to clinch.
Kawamata looks like he wants to counter punch here.

Phoenix closes the distance and clinches.
Phoenix is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Kawamata to keep the fight standing.
Kawamata misses with a hook to the ribs.
Kawamata wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Phoenix has him pressed against the cage.

Phoenix is fighting to break Kawamata's control of his arms but Kawamata is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Phoenix wants to control from the top but Kawamata keeps moving.

Kawamata throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Phoenix escapes and throws Kawamata's legs to the side, diving into side control!
Kawamata is looking to regain half guard here but Phoenix keeps moving and retains side control.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Kawamata is trying to avoid being dragged into an even worse position than he's already in but Phoenix is staying active.

Phoenix tries for a kimura but Kawamata is defending well.
Kawamata tries to buck Phoenix off but Phoenix is having none of it.
Kawamata tries to control but Phoenix manages to take his back.

Kawamata manages to reverse the position and now he's in Phoenix's guard. Nice work there by Kawamata.

Phoenix is in a tricky position but he's been working on his transitions down at Academia dos Brasucas, so we'll see if he gets out of it.
Kawamata wants to control but Phoenix is keeping him busy.

enabling Kawamata to counter with a crisp jab.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kawamata throws a body shot but no joy.
A quick step to the side and Phoenix tries to counter with a shot to the body but it doesn't connect.
Kawamata misses with an uppercut
and Phoenix counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Phoenix throws a shot from downtown. Kawamata moves away and avoids it.

Phoenix scores with a jab. Kawamata acknowledges it with a nod of the head.

Phoenix moves into the clinch successfully.

Kawamata's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Kawamata raises up his leg as if looking to counter with a high kick.
Kawamata takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
Crunch! Kawamata slams his shin into Phoenix's torso.
Kawamata moves out of range of the strikes.
Nice defenses there by Kawamata.
Phoenix misses with a straight right.
Kawamata steps in looking to counter with the mid kick but it doesn't connect.

Phoenix fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Kawamata looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Phoenix connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Kawamata's hands.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Phoenix is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Kawamata.
Kawamata replies with a solid counter kick to the body but Phoenix blocks it well.
Kawamata throws a head kick that misses
and Kawamata takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

Phoenix throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Kawamata on the side of the head.
Phoenix tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Kawamata paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Phoenix tries to bum rush Kawamata with a series of wild strikes but Kawamata uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

A quick step to the side and Phoenix tries to counter with a shot to the body but it doesn't connect.
Phoenix moves out of range of the body kick from Kawamata.

Kawamata takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Ooooh, nice body kick lands from Kawamata. Phoenix shrugs it off though.
A punch lands to the side of Phoenix 's head but he takes it in his stride.

and Kawamata counters with a crisp one two that drops Phoenix! Kawamata thinks about following him to the mat for a moment but instead steps back and waves Phoenix to his feet! Phoenix is in big trouble!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Phoenix swings for the body but Kawamata moves out of range.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Kawamata steps in with a hook that catches Phoenix right on the chin and knocks him to the floor! Kawamata follows him down with more strikes and that's all she wrote! Phoenix looks absolutely devastated.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:07 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Kento Kawamata!
