Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Dick Pawlik (ranked 1 p4p, 36 weight class) and Cornelius Myers (ranked 1 p4p, 5 weight class). Pawlik comes to the cage accompanied by John Butler - Ocean . Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 26 - 10 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Dick Pawlik!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 16 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Cornelius Myers!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Jack Bonds and Percy O'Donnell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pawlik on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.
Pawlik has been working on his boxing with his coaches at McGrady FT in the buildup to the fight.
Cornelius Myers seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Myers lunges at Pawlik with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Pawlik's hand.
Myers uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Pawlik has time to react.
Myers scores with a crisp jab that stopped Pawlik in his tracks.
Myers slips under a jab.
Myers just misses with a punch to the body.
Myers throws a nice inside leg kick.
Myers misses with a lunging right hand

and Pawlik counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Myers wants to sweep but Pawlik has passed to side control!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Pawlik wants to control but Myers is keeping him busy.

Pawlik wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Myers, who protects the arm well.
Myers is trying to improve his position.

Myers is still trying to improve position.
Pawlik working away.
Pawlik in side control lands a decent elbow.
Pawlik gets to mount! Myers was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly.
Pawlik lands a couple of good shots and Myers has given up his back, trying to escape the position!
Pawlik throwing strikes from the back - he gets a warning from the referee for striking the back of the head but all these shots are hurting Myers!

Pawlik is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Myers knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Myers for a finish.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Pawlik has got his arm under Myers's chin working for the choke… has he got it? It looks pretty tight! Oh! Myers has spun round into Pawlik's guard beautifully! Well done that man!

Myers stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Pawlik swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Myers tries to free his leg and advance position but Pawlik is retaining full guard.
Pawlik wants to sweep here but Myers controlling him for the moment.
Myers pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Pawlik is keeping the position for now.

Pawlik working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Myers doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Myers manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Pawlik controls Myers momentarily but Myers frees himself.
Pawlik lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.


Myers escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Pawlik gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Pawlik passes easily into side control. Nice work.

Pawlik wants to control but Myers is keeping him busy.
Myers sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.

Myers looking for submissions off his back.

Pawlik is working for a submission of some sort.
Myers on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.

Pawlik is looking for a kimura but Myers is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Pawlik to get the leverage.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Dick Pawlik dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Pawlik fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Myers looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
A big left from Myers misses.
Myers looks to land a right hand but Pawlik moved out of range.
Pawlik changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
Myers throws a body punch but Pawlik moves out of range.
Pawlik on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.
Myers throws a lazy uppercut

so Pawlik counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Pawlik controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Pawlik advances to half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Myers actively working from the bottom here.
Pawlik is trying to control the action in half guard but Myers is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Pawlik works his foot free and advances to mount.
Pawlik trying to control but he's not successful this time.

Pawlik with the ground and pound from mount.
Pawlik trying to control but Myers is having none of it.
Myers is wriggling around trying to escape.
Myers taking shots to the head.
A nice elbow there by Pawlik.
Pawlik lands a heavy elbow.
Pawlik can't control as he wanted to and Myers manages to get the fight back to his half guard.

Pawlik is looking for a kimura but Myers is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Pawlik to get the leverage.

Pawlik is looking to take a break and control but Myers is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Pawlik performing his best blanket impression for a moment.

Pawlik is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Nice strikes from Pawlik there.

Pawlik is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Myers is just riding it out for now. Pawlik eventually gives up the hold.
Myers manages to get to full guard.

Pawlik connects with a couple of short punches.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Pawlik sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Myers's guard.
Pawlik is nestled in close to Myers, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Pawlik has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Myers tries to roll over but Pawlik keeps him under control.
Pawlik is keen to just control but Myers is a slippery customer.

Myers on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.

Myers is looking for a sweep. Pawlik is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Myers looking to force a kimura from the bottom here. He's concentrating on that move too much though and Pawlik pushes past his half guard into mount!

Myers is flailing around, obviously not happy about being mounted. Pawlik locks hold of one of his arms and spins for an armbar. He's got it! Myers is forced to tap!
