Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Sione Veainu (ranked 370 p4p, 1223 weight class) and Vladimir Plusnin (ranked 56 p4p, 169 weight class). Buckle up people - heeeeeeeeeere we go!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the light heavyweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Sione Veainu!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Vladimir Plusnin!
The judges for this bout are Winston Alpacca, Michael Johnstone and Dirk Anderson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Veainu uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Plusnin.
Plusnin throws an off balance right hand
and Veainu connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
A shot to the body from Veainu misses
and Plusnin counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Plusnin lands with an uppercut that bounces Veainu off the cage and back into range.
Plusnin fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Veainu manages to avoid it.
A little feinted left hand from Veainu on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
Veainu definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
Veainu throws out a loose jab but Plusnin uses good head movement to avoid it.
And Plusnin tries to counter it with a takedown but Veainu pushes his down on his head and steps out.
Plusnin ducks under a wild hook from Veainu.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Veainu feints and then winds up with a huge right hand that connects perfectly and sends Plusnin sprawling to the canvas! Plusnin rolls over backwards and springs off the cage and manages to regain his footing - how acrobatic! Oh, he's still wobbly - can Veainu finish him?!

It looks like Vladimir Plusnin has been cut.
Veainu fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.

Veainu manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Veainu has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Plusnin is working away from the top position though.

Veainu is refusing to be controlled, as Plusnin sits in half guard.

Plusnin is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Plusnin is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Veainu sees it coming and defends easily.

Plusnin is looking for a kimura but Veainu is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Plusnin to get the leverage.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Plusnin is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Veainu has managed to free his arm - good work.

Plusnin drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Plusnin jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Sione Veainu will probably get the nod.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Plusnin shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Veainu as he jumps to the side.

Plusnin closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Veainu did well to prevent Plusnin getting side control.

Plusnin is working for a submission here. He's got hold of the far side arm and he's looking for a kimura. He's cranking on the arm and he's got it! Veainu is tapping out! Ouch, that looked like it hurt!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:43 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Vladimir Plusnin!
