Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between William Reeves (ranked 3193 p4p, 2805 weight class) and Martin Johnston (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Johnston is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Dacw 'Nghariad. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 19 - 0, fighting out of London, William Reeves!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Martin Johnston!
The judges for this bout are Richard Clark, Steven Brown and Sam Margolis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Johnston shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Reeves pinned against the cage. Reeves gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Johnston misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Johnston fails with a takedown attempt.
William Reeves has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Martin Johnston.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Johnston is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here.

Johnston tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Reeves defends well and Johnston ends up having to push Reeves into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Johnston throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Reeves's waist but Reeves gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Johnston off to one side.

Johnston drops back looking for a leg! Reeves is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Reeves manages to kick Johnston off! Johnston jumps back into Reeves's guard.
Reeves is in a tricky position. We've heard reports from his gym mates at Tycoon Gym that he's been drilling escapes, so let's see if he can get back to his feet.
Reeves looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.

Johnston drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Reeves manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Johnston has Reeves in his guard.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

and Reeves cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Reeves throws a hook but Johnston avoids it easily.
Reeves throws a hook to the side of Johnston's head but Johnston sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

Reeves fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Johnston sprawls well initially but Reeves persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Reeves swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Johnston is now in Reeves's guard. A big mistake from Reeves there, giving up the dominant position!

Reeves escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Johnston gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Johnston has gone for a leg lock! Reeves slips out almost immediately though and dives into Johnston's guard.

Reeves wants to take a breather but Johnston is having none of it.

Reeves has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

Reeves jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Johnston is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Johnston and Reeves has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.

Reeves goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Johnston has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Reeves but great work by Johnston.

Johnston is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Reeves pulls his head out easily.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Reeves is looking for a kimura but Johnston is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Reeves to get the leverage.
Reeves is keen to just control but Johnston is a slippery customer.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Reeves is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Johnston is just riding it out for now. Reeves eventually gives up the hold.
