Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jax Rooney (ranked 4015 p4p, 5025 weight class) and Paul Herrera (ranked 479 p4p, 537 weight class). Paul Herrera is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Herrera has taken the fight to the clinch.
Rooney using the Thai clinch to land knees to the body.
Herrera changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Rooney fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Jax Rooney seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

As Rooney backs off Herrera throws a huge counter combo but Rooney manages to avoid it all.
Herrera is trying hard to land a takedown here. Rooney sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Herrera's coach down at Hyperbolic Time Chamber was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Herrera's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Herrera takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.

Rooney stuns Herrera with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
Herrera doesn't manage to clinch there - Rooney circles away.
Herrera takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.

Rooney lands a good knee to the midsection. Herrera won't want to take too many of those.

Herrera is leaning against Rooney and scores with a nice uppercut to the body.
Rooney is pressed up against the cage. Herrera has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Rooney down to the mat. Rooney avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Herrera drops his hands momentarily and Rooney takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
Nice defenses there by Rooney.
Rooney cracks a nice hook into Herrera's ribs.
Rooney lands with a head kick! That's gotta hurt.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Rooney fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Herrera manages to avoid it.
Despite the aggression on Herrera's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.
Herrera misses with a takedown attempt - Rooney sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Herrera closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Rooney dips a shoulder and cracks Herrera with a mighty uppercut! Herrera falls back against the cage and Rooney unloads with a barrage of strikes! Herrera is completely out with his eyes open, only supported by the cage! Save him ref! Eventually the ref decides to do his job and jumps in - Rooney screams abuse at the incompetent official before going over to celebrate with his corner. Brutal stuff!
