PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight kickboxing rules bout between Cendrik Evans (ranked 5590 p4p, 5787 weight class) and Taiga Kawabe (ranked 440 p4p, 261 weight class). Evans comes to the ring accompanied by KB. Taiga Kawabe will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Cendrik Evans!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Taiga Kawabe!
The judges for this bout are Shirou Masuda, Yuuki Gou and Shigeki Fujiwara.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Evans clinches.
Good anti-grappling being displayed by Evans as Kawabe tries to tie him up.
Evans is trying to break the clinch but Kawabe is controlling him.
Evans fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
Evans's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
A frustrated look appears on Evans's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Evans looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Kawabe has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Kawabe manages to break the clinch.
A good leg kick by Evans.
The fight stays on the outside here - Kawabe looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Kawabe avoids the body shot from Evans.

Kawabe scores with a nice body kick.
Evans throws a right and a left that Kawabe avoids nicely.
Kawabe tries to close the distance and clinch but Evans swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Evans seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter.

Evans takes the fight into the clinch.

Kawabe breaks the clinch.
Kawabe missing with a left hand there. Evans was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Evans wants to take advantage of his opponent's missed offense by moving into the clinch.
Kawabe fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Kawabe wants to clinch.
Evans really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Kawabe tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Kawabe tries to clinch up against the ropes, rushing in to close the distance. Evans manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
A little feinted left hand from Evans on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.

Evans closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the ropes.

Kawabe is looking to break free of the clinch but Evans has double underhooks.
Kawabe blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
Kawabe tries to break the clinch but Evans is controlling the position.
Evans trying to land knees to the body.
Kawabe looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Kawabe softening up his opponent with strikes, against the ropes.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
The fighters are pressed against the ropes, as the pace of the fight slows.
Kawabe wants to break free but Evans has control.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Evans lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards.
Kawabe blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
Kawabe has Evans pressed against the ropes, preventing Evans from circling away and getting back to striking at range.

Evans breaks from the clinch.
Kawabe lands a front kick.

Evans gets a clinch.
Evans tries to circle away but Kawabe has him pinned against the ropes.
Kawabe stalling in the clinch but Evans improves position.
Evans prevents Kawabe from breaking the clinch.
Kawabe looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Evans is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the ropes.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Kawabe has had enough of the clinch but Evans keeps him there for the moment.
Evans misses with a punch on the inside.
Kawabe lands a nice elbow.
Evans is looking to control Kawabe's arms but Kawabe gets an underhook and turns him. Now Evans has his back to the ropes.
A frustrated look appears on Evans's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Evans tries to throw a body punch but Kawabe avoids it by throwing Evans back against the ropes.
A quick uppercut on the inside from Kawabe.
Evans is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.
Kawabe tries to stall but Evans uses the opportunity to gain a better position.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Kawabe prevents Evans from breaking the clinch.
Kawabe has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
A nice left hand lands by Evans.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Cendrik Evans will probably get the nod.
That's time! Evans's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

A nice combination there by Evans.
Kawabe tries to close the distance and clinch up but Evans swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Evans is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Kawabe lands with a kick to the temple. Evans shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"

Evans is rocked!

Kawabe rushes Evans and presses him up against the ropes.
Oh Evans is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Kawabe has his opponent in a tight Thai clinch and unloads with a massive knee that drops Evans to the canvas! Can Evans beat the count? 3,4,5,6 and he's up... is he? Yes, he's up! The referee is taking a long look at him and he's waved off the fight! He didn't think Evans was in a fit state to continue so this fight is over! Kawabe is your winner!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:37 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Knee). Taiga Kawabe!
The defeated Cendrik Evans had this to say: 'Congrats to the champ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!'.
