PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Eduardo Corassa (ranked 77 p4p, 102 weight class) and Chan Siam (ranked 14 p4p, 19 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Chan Siam was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 25 - 8 - 2, fighting out of New York, Eduardo Corassa!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 14 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Chan Siam!
The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Shimada, Shirou Masuda and Sosuke Kotani.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Corassa throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Corassa looks for the body kick but Siam saw that one coming.
Corassa buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Eduardo Corassa seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Siam dives in and grabs Corassa's left leg, looking for a takedown. Corassa pushes down on Siam's head and hops out.
Corassa throws a nice outside leg kick.
Corassa seems to be moving with more speed, compared to his last bout. He must have been working on that in the gym.
Siam chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Corassa can pounce on him.
Corassa takes one on the button.
Corassa keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
It looked like Corassa was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from Siam.
Siam connects with a single shot there.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Siam shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Corassa sprawls well. Corassa wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Siam gets slowly back to his feet.

Corassa fakes a jab and scores with a low kick.
Siam lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Siam walks into a left hand.
Corassa connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Siam's hands.

Siam is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here.

and Corassa counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.

Corassa feints and then cracks Siam's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Siam down.
Corassa throws a front kick aimed at Siam's knee but Siam avoids it well.
Siam throws a hook to the side of Corassa's head but Corassa sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

Corassa fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Siam manages to avoid it.

Corassa wants to sweep but no luck.

Siam postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Siam drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Siam jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Corassa wants to sweep here but Siam controlling him for the moment.
Siam wants to control from the top but Corassa keeps moving.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Corassa avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.

Corassa throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Siam stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Corassa stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Corassa wants it to stay on the feet.

Siam's leg has a nasty welt from taking a succession of leg kicks. That must be slowing him down.

Siam shoots in looking for a takedown. Corassa tries to sprawl out of it but Siam keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Corassa manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Corassa, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
