PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Julian Soza (ranked 25300 p4p, 4736 weight class) and Sven Machine (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Julian Soza!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Sven Machine!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Don Winkell and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Soza throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Machine changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.

Machine scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.

Soza bucks up and manages to escape back to his feet!

Machine gets a takedown into half guard.

Soza manages to create a bit of space in order to work his way back to his feet. Machine keeps hold of his opponent and drives him back against the cage.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Machine decides to pull guard.
Soza trying to control but Machine is working from the bottom.

Machine has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Soza can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Soza stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Machine swivels though and keeps the full guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Soza working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Machine working a defensive guard but Soza passes into half guard.

Soza stands up out of the half guard.

Machine gets the takedown into side control.
Soza is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Machine has just dragged him back down to the mat.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Soza manages to get back to half guard.
Machine is trying to advance to mount but he's lost his balance and Soza reverses the position - he's now on top in Machine's guard.
Machine has control of Soza's left arm, preventing Soza from doing any damage.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Machine can do anything to dispel that myth.

Soza passes Machine's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

Soza is looking for a kimura here.
Machine keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.

Soza is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Machine sees it coming and defends easily.

Machine avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Soza.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Machine trying to control but Soza postures up.
Soza wants to lay and pray for a moment but Machine keeps working.
Machine wants to sweep but Soza has passed to side control!
Soza wants to control but Machine is keeping him busy.
Machine tries to control but Soza manages to take his back.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Soza misses with an elbow to the head.

Machine trying to control but not successfully.
Soza wants to control but Machine is keeping busy.

Soza is looking to control Machine but Machine is wriggling around and keeping busy.
Soza lands shots from the back.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Soza lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Soza.
Soza looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Machine manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Soza on his heels. He'll look to pass Soza's guard now, I'm sure.

Machine drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Soza dives on top into guard.

Soza is trying to control the action in half guard but Machine is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Soza is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.

Soza gets to his feet - back to striking we go!
Soza connects with a body shot.
Machine sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs.

Machine is breathing heavily.
Soza shoots in for a double leg but Machine sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Soza goes for a high kick. It partially lands.

Machine explodes and escapes back to his feet! Nice escape there!

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Machine darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.

Soza kicks Machine off and gets back to his feet.
Soza stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Soza wants it to stay on the feet.
Julian Soza has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Sven Machine.
Soza goes for a high kick. It partially lands.
Soza wants to clinch.
Horrible takedown attempt by Machine or perhaps it was just good defense by Soza, which made it look bad.
No luck for Soza with that takedown attempt.

Soza scores with a nice body kick.
Soza throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Machine's waist but Machine gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Soza off to one side.

Soza is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Machine's half guard.
Machine is looking to get back to is feet but Soza passes into side control.
Machine tries to buck Soza off but Soza is having none of it.
Soza is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Machine can do to turn this around?

Machine is not content to let Soza control the position.

Soza remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Machine tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Machine has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Soza is not content to let Machine control the position.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!

Soza throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Machine's waist but Machine gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Soza off to one side.

Machine keeps control of Soza as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Machine tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.

Machine drags the fight down to the ground.
Soza prevents Machine from getting back to his feet.
Machine really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Soza. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Machine has Soza pulled in close to control his posture.

Julian Soza overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Machine takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Soza is having to fend off submission attempts from Machine, who is looking to sink in the choke. Machine doesn't have the hooks in though and Soza manages to reverse position! He's now on top, in his opponent's guard.
Soza lands a couple of decent looking shots.

Soza stands and steps away. Machine gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Machine takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.

Machine closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Soza did well to prevent Machine getting side control.
Soza pushes Machine off looking to stand but Machine dives back in and keeps control.
Machine wants to take a breather but Soza is having none of it.
Soza is trying to control but can't.

Machine is trying to control. Soza wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Soza slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Machine trying to move into half guard but instead Soza has managed to sweep!

Machine might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Soza haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Soza moves into the clinch successfully.
Soza is looking to break free of the clinch but Machine has double underhooks.
Machine tries to land knees in the clinch but Soza avoids the damage to the body.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Soza tries to break the clinch but Machine is controlling the position.
Machine tries to pull guard but Soza holds him up against the cage and eventually Machine drops back down to his feet.
Machine is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Soza to keep the fight standing.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Julian Soza.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Soza, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
