PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Greg Gregory (ranked 6240 p4p, 24110 weight class) and Jayden James (ranked 640 p4p, 656 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Jayden James was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Greg Gregory!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jayden James!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fotheringham, Sam Margolis and Steven Brown.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Gregory forces James back against the cage and clinches.

Gregory breaks from the clinch.
Gregory closes this distance looking for a takedown but James circles away.
A head kick misses from Gregory.
The fight stays on the outside here - Gregory looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Gregory.

Gregory closes the distance and clinches up with James, looking for a takedown. Gregory pushes James against the cage but James circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

James has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Gregory can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Good anti-grappling being displayed by James as Gregory tries to tie him up.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Gregory breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
No luck for Gregory with that takedown attempt.
Gregory dives in for a single leg takedown but James sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Gregory trying to control the position but instead, James has worked for underhooks and has pushed Gregory into the cage.
James has Gregory pressed against the cage, preventing Gregory from circling away and getting back to striking at range.

Gregory jumps guard but James stands there with Gregory around his waist. Gregory gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Gregory goes for a double leg but James avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as James continues to drive forward.

Gregory gets underhooks to prevent James's takedown attempt.
Gregory is struggling to control the position.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Gregory pulls guard successfully.

James is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

James thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

James postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Gregory is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of James, into his guard.

Gregory wants to control from the top but James keeps moving.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Greg Gregory will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!

Gregory shoots in looking for a takedown. James tries to sprawl out of it but Gregory keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. James manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Gregory wants to clinch.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from James! But no joy.

A momentary lapse in concentration from James enables Gregory to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. James manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

James looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

James working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Gregory doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Gregory manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Gregory wants to stand but James has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Gregory landing with the ground and pound.

James looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Gregory passes into half guard.
James takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Gregory looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.

Gregory looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Gregory, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
