PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Brett Stone (ranked 1970 p4p, 1556 weight class) and Rocco Damato (ranked 209 p4p, 172 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Damato's choice of entrance music: Thunderstruck. I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Brett Stone!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 13 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Rocco Damato!
The judges for this bout are Paul Aken, Albert Achterberg and Saam Ante.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Damato throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
A counter left hand to the body from Stone misses its target.

Stone closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Damato's guard.
Stone has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Damato is looking for a triangle but Stone pushes his legs off easily.
Stone working some strikes from top position.

Damato working for a triangle but Stone defends it easily.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Damato has momentary wrist control but Stone slips an elbow through the middle.

Damato has his foot on Stone's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Stone works his way back into a safe position though.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Damato has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Stone is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Damato.

Stone wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Damato, who protects the arm well.

Stone is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Damato knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Damato takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Damato tries to improve position but can't.
A lull in the action here.
Check out the look on Stone's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!
Stone works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.

Stone is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Damato is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Damato takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.
Damato can't do much from the bottom here.
Stone trying to control the action but Damato is working from the bottom.
Damato wants to control but Stone postures up.
Damato taking punishment in the form of punches.
Stone cracks Damato with a big elbow.
Damato tries to buck Stone off but Stone is having none of it.
Stone landing strikes.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Damato manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!

Stone is doing well to control the position and prevent Damato from advancing to side control.
Damato throws a big elbow that misses, also allowing Stone to regain full guard.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Stone is on top in guard.

Stone content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Stone lands a couple of elbows.
Stone lands a couple of digs.

Damato looking for a guillotine here but Stone defends easily.
Stone is working Damato over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Stone wants to control from the top but Damato keeps moving.
Stone content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.

Damato controls Stone momentarily but Stone frees himself.
Stone wants to control from the top but Damato keeps moving.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Stone is in a tricky position. We've heard reports from his gym mates at 88Fight Club Gym88.. 800pw (16 COACHES) that he's been drilling escapes, so let's see if he can get back to his feet.

And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Brett Stone dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Stone leaves Damato with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
It looked like Stone was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from Damato.
Damato wants to clinch up but Stone keeps it at a distance.
Stone showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Damato.
Stone swats away the attempt to clinch by Damato.
Damato tries to clinch there but Stone circles away.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Stone enables Damato to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Stone manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Stone looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Stone is controlling Damato's posture.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Stone manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Damato manages to get himself to full guard.

Damato not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Stone looking to control the position here, rather than advance.

Stone avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Stone pushing down on Damato's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
Stone is nestled in close to Damato, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Stone landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.

Stone is trying to work for a kimura but Damato is defending well.

Damato wants to control but Stone is keeping busy.

Stone wants to work for an arm triangle but Damato is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Stone is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Damato can do to turn this around?
Damato is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Stone scores with a couple of nice shots.

Stone lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Stone lands a nice short elbow.
Stone is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.

Stone uses his free foot to push down on Damato's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Damato.
Damato is squirming around, avoiding Stone's attempts to control the action.
Damato keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Damato wants to hold on but Stone pushes him away.

Damato tries to improve his position but Stone has taken his back! Stone has a choke - it's sunk in pretty tight... Will Damato tap? No... maybe... yes! He's tapped! Stone pushes Damato away and gets up to celebrate with his corner!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:55 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Brett Stone!
After winning the bout, Brett Stone thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
