PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight kickboxing rules bout between Yasol Kim (ranked 3375 p4p, 2728 weight class) and Wesley Taurus (ranked 410 p4p, 349 weight class). Taurus has chosen Country Boy - Aaron Lewis as his entrance music. I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 19 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Yasol Kim!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 20 - 13 - 1, fighting out of Amsterdam, Wesley Taurus!
The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Robert Twigg and Chris Downing.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kim scores with a hook.
Taurus missing with a left hand there. Kim was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Kim takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
Kim with a nice calf kick.
Taurus fails to land with a series of punches.
Kim throws a quick inside leg kick.
Kim takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.
The fighters circling - Kim throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Kim throws a body shot but no joy.
Kim thuds a mid kick into his opponent's body. That will wear on Taurus if he has to take too many more of those.
Kim looks for the body kick but Taurus saw that one coming.
A little jabbing left from Taurus on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.
Kim does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
Taurus pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Kim fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Taurus has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Kim misses with a body shot.
Taurus tries a quick counter leg kick but Kim is wise to it.
Taurus misses with a right hand
and Kim counters with an inside leg kick.
Taurus connects with an inside leg kick.
Taurus's corner calls for a 1, 2 combination and Taurus duly obliges.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Good shot there by Kim.
Kim slips under a jab from Taurus.
A big right from Taurus misses.
Kim is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Taurus checks a low kick from Kim.
Kim jabs. That one connects to the head of his opponent.
Kim throws a nice outside leg kick.
Taurus scores with a decent looking hook.
Some bone on bone action there as Taurus checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.
Taurus throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Kim has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.

Kim walks into a left hand.
Kim throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Taurus throws the left hand but Kim avoids the punch easily.
Taurus has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.

Kim closes the distance and clinches.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Kim prevents Taurus from breaking the clinch.

Taurus pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Kim throws a low kick but Taurus moves out of range easily.
Taurus scores with a head kick.
Kim lands a jab.
Kim avoids a kick to the body.
Taurus pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Kim forces Taurus back against the ropes and clinches.
Kim misses with the head strike.
Both guys are working to get underhooks.
Taurus can't break the clinch.
The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Kim tries to throw a body punch but Taurus avoids it by throwing Kim back against the ropes.
Kim lands a nice uppercut.
Kim keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Taurus's efforts to push away.
Taurus wants to get back to striking at distance but Kim won't allow it.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Yasol Kim will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Kim rushes Taurus and presses him up against the ropes.
Kim lands a hook to the body. It's hard to tell if that hurt Taurus or not.
Taurus is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Kim is defending well for now.
Taurus tries to circle away but Kim has him pinned against the ropes.
Kim pushes Taurus back against the ropes and unloads with a body punch.
Taurus trying to control the position but instead, Kim has worked for underhooks and has pushed Taurus into the ropes.
Kim fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
Kim lands on the inside with an uppercut.
Kim misses with a hook to the ribs.
Kim pushes Taurus back against the ropes and lands a hook to the side of the head.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Taurus tries to land knees in the clinch but Kim avoids the damage to the body.

It really doesn't seem like the step up in weight is hurting Kim here at all. He's more than holding his own against the bigger man.

Kim lands with a quick shot inside that doesn't really do much damage.
Taurus is looking to break free of the clinch but Kim has double underhooks.
Taurus blocking some punches.
Kim misses with a punch on the inside.
Taurus's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button!
Kim lands with a short punch from the clinch.
Taurus blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
A quick uppercut on the inside from Kim.
Kim throws a punch but it's blocked by Taurus.
Kim pressing his opponent against the ropes.
Kim keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Taurus's efforts to push away.
Kim keeps control of Taurus as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Taurus blocks an uppercut.
Taurus tries to break the clinch but Kim is controlling the position.

Taurus blocks an uppercut.
Kim tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Taurus's elbow.

Taurus breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Taurus lands the left hand.
Kim throws a body shot but no joy.
Kim lands a jab.
Kim throws an off balance right hand
and Kim takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Kim darts in and out, connecting with a jab.
A swing and a miss from Kim.
Taurus connects with a right hand. Kim shakes it off.
Kim throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Kim uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Taurus.
Taurus takes a swing at Kim's ribcage but misses.
Sloppy strikes from Taurus. Those never looked like landing.
Taurus lands a jab to Kim's midsection.
Kim tries to land a leg kick but Taurus saw it coming and moves away.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Yasol Kim dominated that second round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!

Kim throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

Wesley Taurus has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Taurus wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Kim has him pressed against the ropes.

Taurus wants to get back to striking at distance but Kim won't allow it.

Taurus lands a nice uppercut.
Taurus tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.
Taurus is looking to control Kim's arms but Kim gets an underhook and turns him. Now Taurus has his back to the ropes.
Taurus blocks a punch to the side of the head.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Taurus is trying to push Kim away but Kim has him pressed against the ropes, so he's going nowhere.
Taurus is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the ropes.
Kim lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards.

And that's the end of the fight!
Yasol Kim showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Kim, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
