Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Valdo Calamari (ranked 2494 p4p, 2732 weight class) and Nario Gwan (ranked 317 p4p, 343 weight class). Calamari's entrance music is Bellini - Samba Do Brasil. A fine choice. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Valdo Calamari!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Nario Gwan!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Percy O'Donnell and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gwan uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Calamari.
Gwan doesn't manage to clinch there - Calamari circles away.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Gwan.
Gwan misses with a takedown
and Calamari counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Calamari slaps away a takedown attempt from Gwan, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Gwan misses with a takedown attempt - Calamari sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Valdo Calamari has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Nario Gwan.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

We've been hearing that Calamari has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish.

Gwan goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.

Nario Gwan seems to be getting the better of the standup.

Gwan lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Calamari circles away quickly and effectively.
Gwan shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Calamari as he jumps to the side.

Calamari moves into range and clinches up with Gwan.
Calamari scores with a nice hook to the head.
Gwan has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Calamari after a bit of a struggle.

Calamari escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Gwan shoots in looking for a takedown. Calamari tries to sprawl out of it but Gwan keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Calamari manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

It looked like Calamari was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from Gwan.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Calamari lands a good elbow from the bottom.
Calamari throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.
Gwan trying to control the position from guard on top but Calamari is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.
Calamari is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all.
Calamari swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Gwan tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Calamari paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Calamari swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.
Calamari looks to land a left hand but Gwan moved out of range nicely.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Valdo Calamari.
Well Calamari has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
