PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Ricky Randaberg (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jason Warden (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Warden's choice of entrance music: bodies. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 1, fighting out of London, Ricky Randaberg!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Jason Warden!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fotheringham, Daniel Bishop and James Atkins.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Randaberg throws a looping overhand right but Warden ducks down to avoid it.
Warden will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
A good leg kick by Warden.
Randaberg misses with a takedown attempt

and Warden counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Randaberg's guard now.
Randaberg keeping moving, preventing Warden from controlling successfully.
Warden must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Warden throwing strikes but missing.
Warden with a flurry of punches that miss.
Warden keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Randaberg's head.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Warden accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Warden trying to control the position from guard on top but Randaberg is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Randaberg not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Randaberg throws a lazy right hand but Warden sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.

Warden displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Randaberg throws out the jab.

Randaberg tries to keep at a distance but Warden has taken the fight into the clinch.
Randaberg is pressed up against the cage. Warden has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Randaberg down to the mat. Randaberg avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Warden moves away from the strike by Randaberg.

Warden closes the distance and clinches.
Randaberg is really struggling to find his range with his punches. Randaberg's reach advantage is clearly causing him problems.
Randaberg has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Warden avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Warden lands an elbow just above Randaberg 's eye.


It looks like Ricky Randaberg has been cut.
Randaberg unloads a knee to the mid-section. Warden lets out a prehistoric sounding urrrrgh.
Randaberg lands with a short punch from the clinch.
Randaberg on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.

Randaberg escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Warden throws a nice head kick!

Warden pushes Randaberg up against the cage in a clinch.

Warden creates a bit of distance and throws an elbow that only just misses.

Warden has Randaberg pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Warden pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Randaberg tumbling to the mat - Warden dives into Randaberg's guard.
Warden looking to sit in guard and control but Randaberg gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Randaberg content to stall in guard here.
Warden is wriggling around but Randaberg manages to pass to half guard.

Warden wants to control but Randaberg is keeping busy.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.

Warden is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Warden wants to control but Randaberg is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Warden tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
A swing and a miss from Randaberg.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Warden listening to his corner there, landing a nice uppercut.

Warden moves into range and clinches up with Randaberg.
Randaberg tries to break the clinch but Warden is controlling the position.
Warden is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Randaberg pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Ricky Randaberg has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jason Warden.
Randaberg keeps control of Warden as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Randaberg using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Warden has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
Randaberg pushes off an throws an elbow but Warden leans to the side and avoids it. We're back to clinching against the cage.

Randaberg wants to sweep here but Warden controlling him for the moment.

Warden looking to sit in guard and control but Randaberg gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Warden is looking for a triangle here but Randaberg uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Randaberg swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Randaberg thows a left - swing and a miss!
Randaberg looks to land a left hand but Warden moved out of range nicely.
Randaberg throws a left and a right that both miss

and Warden counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
Warden tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Randaberg just stands there and leans against the cage.

Warden lands a damaging elbow.

Randaberg is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Warden can't fight it off and eventually Randaberg manages to take the fight to the floor. Warden looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Warden tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Randaberg trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Randaberg works a leg free and moves into half guard.

Warden is looking to escape.

Warden looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Warden is breathing heavily.

Randaberg is looking for a kimura but Warden is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Randaberg to get the leverage.
Warden is controlling Randaberg's trapped leg to prevent Randaberg from advancing to side control.
Warden is trying to stand up here but Randaberg is controlling him well.

Randaberg is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Warden is trying to control but can't.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Randaberg is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Warden sees it coming and defends easily.

Randaberg is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Warden tries to kick Randaberg off but Randaberg keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Warden is pushing off trying to get to his feet. Randaberg has hold of the leg though and he's dropped back for a heel hook… has he got it?? YES! Warden is tapping! This fight is all over!
