The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Alkoun closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Bates is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.
Alkoun presses Bates against the cage and delivers a mid-strength body shot.

Bates jumps guard but Alkoun turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.

Bates has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Alkoun is trying to keep an underhook but Bates manages to get the takedown into half guard.

Alkoun pushes Bates off looking to stand but Bates dives back in and keeps control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Bates wants to free his trapped foot but Alkoun is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Alkoun definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.

Bates content to control rather than advance.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Bates is trying to push Alkoun away but Alkoun has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
Alkoun lands with a right to the head.

Bates jumps guard and drags Alkoun to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Alkoun wants to get up but he can't break Bates's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Alkoun is sitting in close to Bates's body. Bates has gone for a guillotine from the bottom. Oh damn, that looks pretty tight! Alkoun is panicking - it looks like this one could be all over! Yes, Alkoun is tapping! That was a very nice submission by Bates.
