PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Cajun Puto (ranked 708 p4p, 2807 weight class) and Peetu Tam (ranked 113 p4p, 382 weight class). Peetu Tam told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the heavyweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Cajun Puto!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Peetu Tam!
The judges for this bout are Valeri Chadov, Konstantin Menshow and Dmitry Maklakov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A bone on bone clash there as Tam blocks the leg kick.
Tam with a body punch. A glancing blow.
Puto throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Puto works over Tam's head and body with a nice combination.
Tam misses with a wild combination.
Tam tries a head kick but it misses.
Good work by Tam as he checks the leg kick.
Puto cracks Tam with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.
Tam throws a lazy body kick
letting Puto counter with a right hand.
Tam blocks a leg kick.
Tam throws a front kick aimed at Puto's knee but Puto avoids it well.
Tam walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Puto checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.
Puto looks to land a combination but Tam avoids it well.
Tam feints the counter takedown.

Puto blocks a head kick by Tam.
Puto fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Puto takes one to the chin there.

Puto tries to sprawl but Tam drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Tam is pressing down on Puto's thigh, looking to free his foot. Puto is holding on for now.
We've been hearing good reports from Puto's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.
Tam prevents Puto from improving his position.
Puto gets back to full guard.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Tam trying to control but Puto is working from the bottom.

Tam is keen to just control but Puto is a slippery customer.

Puto looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Tam keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Puto's head.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Puto bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Tam's guard.

Puto wants to pass the guard but Tam is keeping the position.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Puto accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Tam wants to sweep here but Puto controlling him for the moment.

Puto tries to free his leg and advance position but Tam is retaining full guard.

Tam working for a triangle but Puto defends it easily.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Puto stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Tam swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Puto wants to control from the top but Tam keeps moving.
Tam is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Tam is on top in guard.

The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

Puto is trying to keep Tam in close.
Tam trying to control the position from guard on top but Puto is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Tam postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Puto looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Puto pulls Tam in close to his closed guard and prevents Tam from doing any damage or advancing position.

That was a close round but I would say that Cajun Puto will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Puto is looking to counter punch.
Puto ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Tam throws a lazy right hand but Puto sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Tam misses with a low kick.
Tam throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.

It looks like Cajun Puto has been cut.
Puto throws a body shot but no joy.
A clash of legs there as Puto blocks the low kick.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Tam pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Peetu Tam seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Tam cracks Puto with a right hand to the side of the head.
Tam misses with a low kick.

Tam is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Puto's half guard.

The fighters are battling for position here. Puto manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

Puto is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Tam is aware though and is defending well.
Puto is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Puto has his foot on Tam's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Tam works his way back into a safe position though.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Puto is on top in guard.

Cajun Puto overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Tam is looking to sweep but instead, Puto has passed into half guard.

Puto thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Puto tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Puto has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Puto has control of Tam's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Tam regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Tam is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Tam is squirming around, avoiding Puto's attempts to control the action.
Puto lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Tam is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Puto with shots to the head and body - Tam looks very uncomfortable down there.
Puto wants to take Tam's back here but Tam is holding on to an arm, himself looking to escape.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

The cut man is working on Cajun Puto's cut.
That's time! Puto's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Puto is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Tam can do to turn this around?

Tam fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Puto sprawls well initially but Tam persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Tam working his ground and pound in the gym.
Puto makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Puto.

Puto will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
Tam wants to control from the top but Puto keeps moving.

Tam is looking to regain half guard here but Puto keeps moving and retains side control.
Tam manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.

Tam tries to get to full guard but Puto has control of the leg.
Puto has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Puto controlling his opponent.
Puto's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Puto takes Tam's back. Could be looking for a rear naked choke here - either way, Tam is in trouble.

Tam defends a rear naked choke attempt by controlling one of Puto's arms.

Puto looking to break Tam's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Tam remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Puto will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke!

Tam has hold of Puto's leg, trying to break free but it's let Puto lock up a rear naked choke! This could be big trouble! Tam is turning an unusual color here… he's out! Puto throws him to one side and jumps onto the ropes to celebrate with his fans.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:24 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Cajun Puto!

Cajun Puto took to the mic in his post fight interview and said 'Thanks to the fans for turning up tonight. Get that piece of sh*t out of my cage. If any other fool wants to step into the swampman's den, then go ahead. There is no one on this planet that can beat me. No one!'.
