PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Carson Tully (ranked 1823 p4p, 1903 weight class) and Markos Hadjilis (ranked 278 p4p, 285 weight class). Markos Hadjilis told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Carson Tully!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Markos Hadjilis!
The judges for this bout are Elvis Blanc, Yves DeLean and Trevor Gratis.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Tully moves forwards but Hadjilis connects with a nice, crisp jab.
We've been informed that Hadjilis has been sparring a lot of Muay Thai in the buildup to this fight so let's see if that has an impact on the result.
Tully tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Tully tries to clinch
and Hadjilis counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Tully blocks a jab.
A little feinted left hand from Tully on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.

Tully drives through and clinches with Hadjilis against the ropes.
Tully presses Hadjilis against the ropes and delivers a mid-strength body shot.
Hadjilis wants to break the clinch but can't.
Hadjilis takes an elbow to the temple.

It looks like Markos Hadjilis has been cut.
Tully tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.
Tully comes over the top with an elbow. That landed flush.

Hadjilis breaks from the clinch.
Hadjilis stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Tully.
Hadjilis misses with a hook. Tully ducked under it nicely.
Tully tries a head kick but it misses.
Carson Tully seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Tully clinches.
With the two fighters working up against the ropes, Tully just misses with a elbow thrown towards Hadjilis's brow.
Hadjilis avoiding damage as Tully throws knees to the body.

Tully gets an overhook and lands an elbow to the side of the head.

That has opened up Markos Hadjilis's cut even more.
Hadjilis wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Tully has him pressed against the ropes.
Tully misses with the head strike.

Hadjilis breaks the clinch.
Hadjilis fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Tully looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Tully swings away with a leg kick that misses.
Markos Hadjilis is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Tully lands a high kick!

The cut above Markos Hadjilis's eye is starting to cause him problems now.
Hadjilis throws a body shot but no joy.
Tully doesn't manage to clinch there - Hadjilis circles away.
Tully tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Hadjilis lands with a kick to the temple. Tully shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"
Hadjilis misses with a hook.
Tully gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Hadjilis.
Hadjilis fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Tully manages to avoid it.
Tully closes the distance looking to clinch
and Tully takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Tully misses with a head kick.
Hadjilis scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.
The fight stays on the outside here - Tully looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Tully throws a sloppy head kick and Hadjilis moves out of range easily.
Tully gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Hadjilis.
Hadjilis avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Tully tries to clinch there but Hadjilis circles away.
Hadjilis bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
Tully throws a push kick but Hadjilis slaps the foot to one side.
Hadjilis cracks Tully with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Tully tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.
Tully throws a nice elbow but it doesn't land.
Hadjilis blocks a body shot from Tully.

Tully with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.

Hadjilis breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Hadjilis listening to his corner there, landing a nice uppercut.
Tully swings for the body but Hadjilis moves out of range.
Tully throws out a leg kick but Hadjilis moves out of range and Tully only half commits.
Hadjilis dips to his left and cracks Tully with an uppercut!
Tully changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Hadjilis tries to avoid it but Tully manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Hadjilis to the ground. Hadjilis escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Hadjilis lands a jab to Tully's midsection.
Tully fails in his attempt to clinch.
Tully is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Hadjilis misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Tully wants to clinch up but Hadjilis keeps it at a distance.
Hadjilis throws a sloppy head kick and Tully moves out of range easily.
Tully tries to close the distance and clinch but Hadjilis swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Hadjilis scores with a punch to the head.
Hadjilis lands with a straight right. Tully didn't see that one coming.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Tully fails with an attempt to clinch.

Hadjilis scores with the left hand. Tully knows he should have avoided that one.
Tully tries to close the distance and clinch up against the ropes but Hadjilis paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Tully is looking to clinch.
Hadjilis throws a head kick that misses.
Tully doesn't manage to clinch there - Hadjilis circles away.
Hadjilis misses with a two punch combination.
Nice body punch from Hadjilis.
Hadjilis misses with a head kick.
Tully wants to clinch up but Hadjilis keeps it at a distance.
Hadjilis throws a hook to the side of Tully's head but Tully sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

Tully closes the distance and clinches.

Tully lands a knee to the body.
The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Hadjilis can't break the clinch.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Hadjilis dips to his left and cracks Tully with an uppercut!
Tully shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Tully staying out of range there.

Tully moves into the clinch successfully.
Hadjilis is trying to push Tully away but Tully has him pressed against the ropes, so he's going nowhere.
A right hook to the body lands for Tully.
Tully creates a bit of distance and throws an elbow that only just misses.
Hadjilis takes an elbow to the temple.
Hadjilis blocks a body shot from Tully.
Tully tries to land knees in the clinch but Hadjilis avoids the damage to the body.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Hadjilis escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Tully slips under a jab from Hadjilis.
Tully has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Tully there as he acknowledges the shot.
Tully lands a jab to the head.

Markos Hadjilis's cut is absolute horrible now. This looks like something out of a horror film with blood covering both fighters.

The referee calls the doctor in to look at Markos Hadjilis's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:55 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Cut). Carson Tully!
After winning the bout, Carson Tully thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
