Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Patrick River (ranked 388 p4p, 260 weight class) and Roland Weudke (ranked 47 p4p, 34 weight class). River comes to the cage accompanied by Pantera - Walk. Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 32 - 17 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Roland Weudke!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A low kick lands for River.
River doesn't manage to clinch there - Weudke circles away.
Weudke throws out a counter right but River avoids it with no problem.
Weudke on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by River. River obviously looking to wear him down.
River scores with a kick to the body.
River lands with an uppercut that bounces Weudke off the cage and back into range.
River fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Weudke on the side of the head.
River throws an overhand right that lands on Weudke's shoulder, as Weudke tries to avoid the shot.
River with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Weudke to score with a decent uppercut.

River catches Weudke with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!

and Weudke counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
Some bone on bone action there as Weudke checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.

Weudke shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Weudke was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Oooooh!!! Weudke has knocked River down with a huge combo! Weudke steps away and waves a wobbly River back to his feet! This one might not go much longer!

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

I was talking to River's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.
River tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Weudke just stands there and leans against the cage.

Weudke pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Weudke throws a lazy right hand but River sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
River lands with an uppercut that bounces Weudke off the cage and back into range.
River throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
A little jabbing left from Weudke on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.
River wants to clinch up but Weudke keeps it at a distance.

River shoots in and gets a takedown into Weudke's guard.

Weudke has managed to wall walk up one of the corner posts to get back to his feet. River is pushing him up against the cage, looking to control the position.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
