PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between John Wick (ranked 4571 p4p, 3430 weight class) and Yosuke Gozen (ranked 550 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Wick might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Think - KALEIDA. The key to victory for John Wick has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Yosuke Gozen!
The judges for this bout are Anthony Taglia, David Schapiro and Russell Pearce.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Horrible takedown attempt by Wick or perhaps it was just good defense by Gozen, which made it look bad.

Gozen closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Wick did well to prevent Gozen getting side control.
Gozen looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Wick with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Gozen not doing much here.
Gozen lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Wick on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Gozen controlling the pace.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Gozen drops an elbow to the side of Wick's head.

Gozen scores with a couple of good hammerfists.

Gozen keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
Gozen is pressing down on Wick's thigh, looking to free his foot. Wick is holding on for now.
Wick looks like he's trying to stand up.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Gozen connects with a nice short shot to Wick's temple.

Gozen working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Wick taking some punishment here, with Gozen in his half guard.
Gozen content to control rather than advance.
Gozen is nestled in close to Wick, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
The fighters are battling for position here. Wick manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Gozen chips away with some ground and pound.

Gozen got a little sloppy there for a moment and Wick has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Gozen has managed to get both his arms back between Wick's legs - danger averted.

Gozen looking to improve position, pressing down on Wick's thigh with his hand. Wick seems to be working to lock up a guilotine though... is Gozen paying attention? Apparently not! He's locked it up tight! Gozen's face has turned purple! Will he tap? Will he! YES! He's tapped! Wick picked his opening and made it count! Great finish!
