Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Thomas Martins!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Gamba Osaka!
The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Elvis Blanc and Alec Ball.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Martins pushes Osaka up against the cage in a clinch.
Martins throws an elbow that misses.
Martins pushes off an throws an elbow but Osaka leans to the side and avoids it. We're back to clinching against the cage.
Martins lands with a good tight uppercut to the head.
Martins with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.

Osaka escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
We've been told by Martins's head coaches at Cozad MMA Sydney that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.

Osaka tries to keep at a distance but Martins has taken the fight into the clinch.

Osaka tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Martins smiles and moves away.

Martins clinches.
Osaka wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.

Osaka jumps guard and drags Martins to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

Osaka working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Martins doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Martins manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Martins decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Osaka, up you get!

Osaka closes the distance and clinches.
A frustrated look appears on Osaka's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Osaka is working for takedown but Martins is calmly controlling the position for now.
Martins swings away with an uppercut that misses.

Osaka blocks a punch to the side of the head.

Thomas Martins has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Gamba Osaka.

Osaka breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Osaka gets tackled into the cage by Martins. Martins maintains the clinch.

Martins tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.
Martins misses with a punch on the inside.

Osaka drags the fight down to the ground.
Osaka controls Martins momentarily but Martins frees himself.
Osaka should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

Osaka with a couple of shots from the bottom there - nothing Martins can't handle though.
Osaka wants to sweep but no luck.

Martins gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

Osaka gets tackled into the cage by Martins. Martins maintains the clinch.
Osaka wants to get back to striking at distance but Martins won't allow it.
Osaka fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Martins keeps control of Osaka as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.

Osaka wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Osaka drops down looking for an ankle pick but Martins pulls his leg out and moves away.

Osaka drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Martins gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Osaka to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Osaka got a little sloppy there for a moment and Martins has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Osaka has managed to get both his arms back between Martins's legs - danger averted.

Osaka wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Martins is now in half guard.
Osaka has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Martins is working away from the top position though.
Martins will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Osaka is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.

Osaka throws a hook to the body. More of an arm punch but it's all scoring with the judges.

We're hearing some news coming in from back stage. It's official - Osaka has eaten all the pies!
Osaka is trying to maintain a safe position but Martins gets an underhook and turns Osaka into the cage.

It looks like Gamba Osaka has been cut.
Osaka displaying some good clinch control by pressing Martins up against the cage.
Osaka wants to take the fight to the mat but Martins manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.

Osaka gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Osaka throws a punch but it's blocked by Martins.
Osaka has Martins pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Martins manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Osaka gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Martins regains guard.
Osaka slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Osaka takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Martins is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Osaka is controlling him well.
Osaka misses with the ground and pound.
Osaka lands an elbow.
Martins is trying to buck Osaka off.
Osaka is working Martins over with some ground and pound from side control.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Osaka scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Martins to see if he's OK.
Osaka sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Martins is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
Gamba Osaka has got the better of the ground game so far.
Martins pushes Osaka away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Osaka gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

Osaka connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Martins some visible discomfort.
You can see the frustration on Martins's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Osaka wants to control but Martins is keeping him busy.
Martins is trying to get back to his feet.

Osaka tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Osaka has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Thomas Martins is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Thomas Martins showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Martins, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
