PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Andrei Averyanov (ranked 1660 p4p, 2995 weight class) and Caleb DeCoteau (ranked 219 p4p, 392 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Averyanov might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Drago's Entrance Theme. Man, I cannot wait for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Andrei Averyanov!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Caleb DeCoteau!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Frank Antenori and Percy O'Donnell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
DeCoteau changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Averyanov tries to avoid it but DeCoteau manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Averyanov to the ground. Averyanov escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
An attempted straight right counter from Averyanov misses the target.
A chopping leg kick lands by Averyanov.
DeCoteau swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
DeCoteau misses with a hook
enabling Averyanov to counter with a crisp jab.
DeCoteau takes a kick to the body and keeps moving.
Averyanov thuds a left hand into DeCoteau's body.
DeCoteau moves out of range as Averyanov strikes.
DeCoteau smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.
Averyanov uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by DeCoteau.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that DeCoteau has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.
Averyanov throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
DeCoteau wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
DeCoteau lands the left hand.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
DeCoteau looks for a takedown but Averyanov sprawls well.
It looked like Averyanov wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.

Averyanov drops DeCoteau with a beautiful combination! DeCoteau stares up at his opponent, who ushers him back to his feet - Averyanov is looking for the KO!

It looks like Caleb DeCoteau has been cut.
Caleb DeCoteau seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
DeCoteau misses with a takedown attempt - Averyanov sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Andrei Averyanov has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Caleb DeCoteau.
A nice inside leg kick there by Averyanov. That's going to slow DeCoteau down.
Andrei Averyanov is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
DeCoteau walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.

The crowd cheers as DeCoteau lands an impressive looking overhand right. Averyanov doesn't seem phased though.

DeCoteau shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.
DeCoteau misses with a hook.
DeCoteau ducks under a wild hook from Averyanov.

DeCoteau bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Averyanov is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, DeCoteau asserts his dominance and retains side control.
The strikes coming from DeCoteau are missing the target in this wave of attacks.
Averyanov tries to escape but DeCoteau is in control.

DeCoteau is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Averyanov is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Averyanov is trying to escape and get back to his feet.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
DeCoteau moves out of range as Averyanov strikes.
Averyanov throws an uppercut from half a mile away. DeCoteau sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Averyanov swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
DeCoteau looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.
Averyanov looks to land a combination but DeCoteau avoids it well.

DeCoteau throws a right and a left that Averyanov avoids nicely.
DeCoteau throws a right and a left that both miss.
DeCoteau connects with a body shot.
Averyanov buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.

DeCoteau shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Averyanov manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Averyanov manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
DeCoteau takes a shot to the head.
Averyanov wants to break the clinch but can't.
DeCoteau is trying to drag Averyanov to the mat but Averyanov just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
A nice right hand lands inside from DeCoteau.

Averyanov breaks the clinch.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Andrei Averyanov will probably get the nod.
The cut man is working on Caleb DeCoteau's cut.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


DeCoteau shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than DeCoteau was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

DeCoteau seems to be looking for submissions.
Caleb DeCoteau has got the better of the ground game so far.

Averyanov definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
Averyanov is trying to stand up here but DeCoteau is controlling him well.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

DeCoteau is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
DeCoteau throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Averyanov wants to get back to his feet.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Averyanov lands a really nice looking cross but DeCoteau seems unphased.

Averyanov throws a head kick that DeCoteau semi-blocks.
DeCoteau throws a hook but Averyanov blocks it.
Averyanov tries to work over DeCoteau's front leg with a kick but DeCoteau checks it.

Averyanov lands a high kick!

That has opened up Caleb DeCoteau's cut even more.
Averyanov swinging wildly here.
Averyanov drops DeCoteau with a huge uppercut! DeCoteau drops to the floor like a sack of potatoes. Averyanov is raining down punches and the ref stops the fight! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:24 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Andrei Averyanov!
An out of breath Andrei Averyanov thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
