Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Pooky Steve (ranked 2823 p4p, 2753 weight class) and Tom Korppila (ranked 385 p4p, 376 weight class). Pooky Steve has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Pooky Steve!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Tom Korppila!
The judges for this bout are David Schapiro, Alyssa Summers and Jonathan Paton.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Steve tries to clinch but Korppila is having none of it.
Korppila tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
Korppila avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Steve has managed to clinch.
Korppila looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Korppila fails to pull guard.
A short right hand to the side of the head by Steve.
Korppila blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
Korppila drops down looking for an ankle pick but Steve pulls his leg out and moves away.
Korppila misses the jab.
Korppila pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Steve keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Pooky Steve has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Tom Korppila.
Korppila displaying good standup as he scores with a three punch combination.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Steve misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Korppila.
Steve is looking to clinch.
Steve tries to clinch but Korppila moves out of range.
Steve closes the distance but Korppila moves to the side

and Korppila counters with a takedown into side control.

Korppila cracks Steve with a big right hand but Steve just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
Steve tries to escape but Korppila is in control.
Korppila misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Steve wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!

Korppila is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Steve has escaped the position, nice work there.
Steve dodges the ground and pound from Korppila.
Korppila is working Steve over with some ground and pound from side control.
Korppila misses with an attempted head punch from side control.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Korppila working the body and head with strikes.

Korppila looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.

Korppila goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Steve has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Korppila but great work by Steve.
Korppila can't do much from the bottom here.
Korppila is trying to improve his position.
Korppila sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Korppila wants to improve his position but Steve is controlling well.
Steve is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.
Korppila wants to get back to full guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Korppila is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Steve's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Steve's back!
Steve is trying to get back to his feet but Korppila has full control of the position and if anything, Steve has just worked his way into a worse spot.
Korppila struggling to land strikes to the head as Steve covers up.
Steve takes a big shot to the side of the head.
Korppila throws a big right hand but he misses and hits the mat. Ouch.

Steve is trying to get back to his feet but Korppila has full control of the position and if anything, Steve has just worked his way into a worse spot.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Steve prevents Korppila from getting a body triangle.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Steve wants to get back to his feet.
Korppila has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Steve avoids the strikes from Korppila.
Korppila wants to control but Steve is keeping busy.
Korppila is throwing strikes from the back here. Oh that last one was to the back of the head. Korppila gets a warning from the referee. He throws another strike to the back of the head straight away though and the referee has seen enough. He breaks up the two fighters and stands them back up. Korppila gets a real talking to here and is lucky not to get a point deducted. Korppila apologises and we restart here on the feet.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Steve moves into the clinch.
Steve swings away with an uppercut that misses.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Tom Korppila dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action.

Steve tries to clinch there but Korppila circles away.
Korppila throws a jab but it's blocked by Steve.
It looked like Steve was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from Korppila.
Pooky Steve seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Korppila is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Steve's half guard.
Steve is not content to let Korppila control the position.
Korppila not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Korppila drops an elbow to the side of Steve's head.

Steve is rocked!

It looks like Pooky Steve has been cut.
Steve on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Steve tries to get out of the position.
Korppila wants to take a breather but Steve is having none of it.
Ground and pound from Korppila.
Tom Korppila has got the better of the ground game so far.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Steve pushes Korppila off looking to stand but Korppila dives back in and keeps control.
Steve keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Korppila lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Korppila wants to lay and pray for a moment but Steve keeps working.
Steve has hold of Korppila's hands but Korppila slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Oh Steve is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Korppila working the head and body with strikes.
Korppila unloads with some huge strikes here! Steve is out! Korppila wins by brutal knockout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:39 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Tom Korppila!
