PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Everest Frank (ranked 878 p4p, 298 weight class) and Akwasi Nti (ranked 25 p4p, 4 weight class). Frank's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Knife Talk x Drake ft. 21 Savage x Project Pat. Both these guys are coming into the fight with injuries so let's see if that has a bearing on the fight. This should be fireworks!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Everest Frank!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 4 - 0, fighting out of London, Akwasi Nti!
The judges for this bout are Hugh Johnson, Donatello Bradman and Eliza Hachem.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nti throws a hook but Frank blocks it.
Frank tries for a takedown but Nti sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Frank fails with the takedown
and Nti counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Nti waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Frank.
Frank tries to counter with a takedown but Nti is quick to defend against it.
Frank on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.
Nti displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Frank.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Everest Frank. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Frank clinches with his opponent.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Frank makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut.
Nti looks winded!

Frank manages to pull guard.
Frank looking to hit a scissor sweep but Nti is one step ahead there.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Frank is on top in guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Frank is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Nti utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Frank throws a big right hand that misses.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Frank working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Nti's head.
Frank trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

Nti has been taking part in the yoga sessions down at Deathsquad. Presumably he's going to look for a slick submission... Or maybe he's looking to avoid one.
Frank lands a couple of elbows.

Frank loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Frank postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Hammerfist, elbow! yells Frank's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Frank will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Nti is not in a great position here, taking some shots.
Frank landing with strikes to the head and body from side control.
Frank creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
Nti takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.

Frank looks up at the clock and then as Nti takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Frank smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Frank in side control, just content to control the action for now.
We've been hearing that Frank has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Everest Frank dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Frank moves in looking to clinch but Nti pushes him off.
Nti throws a body shot but no joy.
Frank wants to take advantage of his opponent's missed offense by moving into the clinch.
Frank tries to close the distance and clinch up but Nti swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Nti swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.
Nti looks to score with a jab to the body but Frank is just out of range.

Frank moves into range and clinches up with Nti.
Nti gets through Frank's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head.
Nti has a couple of punches blocked by Frank.
Nti swings wildly with an uppercut but Frank uses good head movement to avoid it.

Frank pulls guard effortlessly.
Frank bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Nti's guard.

Nti is breathing heavily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Frank controlling from the top position.
Frank loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Frank content to stall in guard here.
Nti really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Frank. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Frank postures up and lands a big shot to Nti's brow.
Frank's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Frank seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Nti for as long as he can get away with.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Frank not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Frank is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Nti can do to turn this around?

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Frank is defended easily by Nti.
A nice side step and Nti releases a counter shot to the body, but it doesn't find it's home.

Nti loads up on a big right hand but Frank slips the punch.
Frank shoots in but no luck this time.
Frank slips a jab from Nti.
Akwasi Nti is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Frank scores with a takedown into Nti's guard.
Frank is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Frank with a nice head shot there.
Nti working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Frank.

Frank's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Frank has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Nti circles away from the clinch attempt.
Frank will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Everest Frank. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Frank shoots in but Nti avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
A looping hook to the body misses from Nti. Frank does a little dance to reset his feet.
Frank wants to clinch.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!

Frank has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Nti regains guard immediately.

Nti takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Frank content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Frank throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Nti works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Frank distracts Nti with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.

Nti is rocked!
Frank connects with a couple of short punches.
Nti is still in real trouble! Can Frank finish him?
Frank arches his back and unloads with a massive left and a right! Nti's eyes roll back into his head, he's out cold! The ref dives in to stop the fight - wow, they were hard shots!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:54 of round 3, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Everest Frank!
Our winner, Everest Frank, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
