PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Drax Bautista (ranked 1065 p4p, 2280 weight class) and Bjorn Akerfeldt (ranked 142 p4p, 299 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 7 - 0, fighting out of New York, Drax Bautista!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 9 - 0, fighting out of New York, Bjorn Akerfeldt!
The judges for this bout are Yasuomi Hirokawa, Sosuke Kotani and Yukihiro Shimada.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Akerfeldt connects with a right hand. Bautista shakes it off.
Akerfeldt shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Bautista sprawls well. Bautista wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Akerfeldt gets slowly back to his feet.
Bautista throws a shot to the body.
Bautista has been working on his boxing with his coaches at Fetus MMA in the buildup to the fight.
Bautista dips down and scores with a jab to the body.

Akerfeldt clinches up with Bautista and pushes him back against the cage.
Bautista misses with a punch to the body.

Akerfeldt has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Bautista regains guard immediately.

Bautista looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Akerfeldt working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
Akerfeldt is looking to work some ground and pound but Bautista has wrist control.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Akerfeldt throws a big right hand that misses.
Bautista is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Akerfeldt working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Bautista's head.

Bautista has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Akerfeldt can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Bautista trying to keep a closed guard but Akerfeldt is proving a slippery customer.
Akerfeldt has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Bautista has his foot on Akerfeldt's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Akerfeldt works his way back into a safe position though.
Akerfeldt throws a big elbow that misses.

Bautista had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Akerfeldt defends it easily.

Bautista working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Akerfeldt doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Akerfeldt manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Akerfeldt tries to free his leg and advance position but Bautista is retaining full guard.
Akerfeldt working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Bautista is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.

Akerfeldt throws a sloppy strike and Bautista has hooked up an armbar on the loose arm! He's turned and extended fully! Akerfeldt is forced to tap! Great BJJ from Bautista!

In his post fight interview, Drax Bautista started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
