Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jake Robertson (ranked 5093 p4p, 2303 weight class) and Thufir Hawat (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Thufir Hawat will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jake Robertson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Thufir Hawat!
The judges for this bout are Anthony Taglia, Columbo Gatti and Joseph Jones.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A solid leg kick lands there for Hawat.
A shot to the liver by Hawat. Beautiful body shot.
Robertson fails with an attempt to clinch.
Robertson has his takedown stuffed
and Hawat cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

Robertson takes the fight into the clinch.
Robertson tries for a takedown. No joy.
Hawat lands with a short shot to the head.
Hawat tries a knee to the head but Robertson blocks it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Robertson has Hawat pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Hawat manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Hawat breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Hawat lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
Hawat has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.

Robertson moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
Robertson fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Hawat throws a nice inside leg kick.
Hawat tests Robertson's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Hawat stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Hawat wants it to stay on the feet.
Hawat flicks out a counter leg kick but Robertson steps away.
Robertson walks forward, straight into a front kick from Hawat.
Robertson misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Robertson throws a lazy uppercut
and Hawat counters with a nice leg kick.
Hawat lands a nice looking kick to the body. Robertson takes a step back to recover.
Robertson takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
Robertson takes a push kick to the midsection and stumbles backwards.
Hawat scores with a kick to the body.

Robertson fails with a takedown attempt.
Hawat lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.

Jake Robertson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Robertson darts in and clinches Hawat up against the cage.
Robertson goes for a takedown attempt but Hawat pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

Hawat manages to break the clinch.
Hawat lands a leg kick that knocks Robertson off balance momentarily.
Robertson fails with the takedown.
Hawat connects with an inside leg kick.
Hawat fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Robertson.
Hawat dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Robertson. That did some damage!
Hawat circles away from the clinch attempt
and Hawat counters with a slapping leg kick.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Thufir Hawat dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Robertson clinches up with Hawat and pushes him back against the cage.
Robertson drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Hawat misses with an elbow over the top.
The referee calls for Robertson to work.
Robertson is hobbling a little on that front leg after taking quite a few leg kicks so far in this fight.
Robertson is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Hawat pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Robertson swings away with an uppercut that misses.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Hawat scores with a sloppy right hand. Robertson should have avoided that one.

Hawat fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Robertson.
Hawat moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
Hawat fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Robertson has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.

and Hawat counters with a left to the body.
Robertson takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Hawat throws a leg kick which misses Robertson's front leg but catches the back leg as Robertson tries to avoid it.
Hawat delivers a nice body kick.
Hawat lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.

Hawat throws a nice outside leg kick.
Oh Robertson is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Robertson get stunned by a cross and takes another one on the button. Robertson stumbles backwards and tries to bounce back off the cage but Hawat runs in and jumps on him with a leaping lead hook that puts him out! Wow, that was highlight reel stuff! Awesome finish!
