PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Carvel Watkins (ranked 5379 p4p, 5229 weight class) and Micahel Anderson (ranked 607 p4p, 599 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Carvel Watkins!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Micahel Anderson!
The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, Elvis Blanc and Steve Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice takedown defense from Anderson. No joy for Watkins on that attempt.
Anderson goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Watkins quickly followed up with a counter body kick but doesn't connect.

Watkins fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Anderson, pushing him back against the cage.
Watkins with an attempt at a knee that misses.

Watkins's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Watkins takes one on the chin but seems OK.

Anderson closes the distance and pushes Watkins back into the cage.
Anderson prevents the takedown attempt.
Watkins is defending well against a takedown attempt.
Watkins prevents a takedown attempt there.
Anderson has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Watkins is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Watkins is looking to improve his position.

Anderson has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Watkins has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!

Anderson looking to break Watkins's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Watkins remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Anderson will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke!

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!

Watkins takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.

Anderson clinches.
Anderson drops down looking for an ankle pick but Watkins pulls his leg out and moves away.
Anderson shoots in and drives through. Watkins sprawls well.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Anderson enables Watkins to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Anderson manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Anderson has his foot on Watkins's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Watkins works his way back into a safe position though.

Anderson escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Watkins gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Watkins trying to control the position from guard on top but Anderson is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Anderson is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Micahel Anderson is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Anderson bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Watkins's guard.


Watkins looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

Anderson seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Anderson is continuing to stall.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Watkins working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Anderson doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Anderson manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Watkins goes for a takedown in the clinch but Anderson prevents it.

Anderson wants to take the fight to the mat but Watkins manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Watkins unloads a knee to the mid-section. Anderson lets out a prehistoric sounding urrrrgh.

Well Anderson has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
