PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Matija Maestro (ranked 610 p4p, 1617 weight class) and DeShawn Robinson (ranked 84 p4p, 215 weight class). Maestro's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Shortwire - Reconfig. DeShawn Robinson has the eye of the tiger tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Matija Maestro!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, DeShawn Robinson!
The judges for this bout are Trevor Gratis, Alec Ball and Robert Douchet.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Robinson scores with a kick to the body.
Maestro misses with a looping left.
Robinson misses with a looping right.
Maestro shoots in but no luck this time.
Maestro lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Robinson attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin.
Maestro changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
Robinson looks to land a right hand but Maestro moved out of range.
Robinson throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Maestro stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.

Maestro ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Robinson moves away.
Maestro lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.

Maestro looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Robinson!

Robinson tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Maestro wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
You can see the frustration on Robinson's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Robinson tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Maestro wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Robinson is looking for a sweep.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Maestro tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.

Maestro is trying to get an arm triangle but Robinson is defending well.

Robinson is not content to let Maestro control the position.
Maestro is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Robinson's shoulder. That is not cool.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Robinson wants to control but Maestro is keeping busy and won't allow it.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Robinson tries to score with a low kick but Maestro moves his leg out of the way.
DeShawn Robinson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

and Maestro decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Robinson's guard.
Maestro works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Robinson is looking to control Maestro's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Robinson avoid being mounted?
Robinson won't allow Maestro to pass to mount.
Robinson felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.

Maestro is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Robinson is just riding it out for now. Maestro eventually gives up the hold.

Robinson stops Maestro from taking his back. Still, being mounted isn't any better.

Robinson fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Maestro checks it well.

Maestro closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Maestro lands in his opponent's guard.
Robinson lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Maestro is working actively from the bottom, looking for submissions. He's escaped his hips to the side and he's going for an armbar! Robinson has his hands clasped together but Maestro extends and breaks Robinson's desperate grasp, forcing a tap out due to armbar! Nice BJJ displayed there by Maestro.
