In the red corner, competing out of Amsterdam, with a TWGC record of 34 wins and 10 losses; Shane MacGowan! And in the blue corner, fighting out of New York, with a TWGC record of 11 wins and 6 losses; Valentin Saric!
The judges for this bout are Seu Braga, Paulo Santos and Matheus Silva.


The fighters bow as they face eachother in the middle of the mat and we are under way.

We've been hearing good reports from MacGowan's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.
MacGowan wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
MacGowan might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

MacGowan's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Saric is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
MacGowan is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Saric is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Saric is controlling MacGowan's trapped leg to prevent MacGowan from advancing to side control.
MacGowan frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

Saric slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.

Saric is looking to control MacGowan's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Saric avoid being mounted?
MacGowan perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Saric is trying to get back to full guard.

MacGowan wants to pass the guard but Saric is defending well.
MacGowan looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
MacGowan has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Saric looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Saric is concentrating on defense, preventing MacGowan from advancing position.

Let's hope that Saric has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

MacGowan keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
Saric wants to improve his position but MacGowan is controlling well.
Saric gets back to full guard.
MacGowan trying to control but Saric is working from the bottom.

Saric not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

MacGowan is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

MacGowan seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

MacGowan seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Saric for as long as he can get away with.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Saric looking to hit a scissor sweep but MacGowan is one step ahead there.
