PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Tykas Wong (ranked 4612 p4p, 4375 weight class) and Alexander Gatic (ranked 376 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Tykas Wong!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Alexander Gatic!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fotheringham, Donald Grub and William Gold.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gatic pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Wong half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.

Wong scores with a takedown into Gatic's guard.

Gatic uses the cage to get back to his feet.
Gatic jabs at Wong's body.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Wong could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Wong drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Wong is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Gatic pulls him back up using the underhooks.

Wong tightens his grip and picks Gatic up, before dumping him to the ground. Gatic manages to land in guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Wong trying to control the position from guard on top but Gatic is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Wong is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Wong might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Gatic wants to sweep here but Wong controlling him for the moment.
Wong throwing strikes but missing.
Wong passes into half guard.
Gatic is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Wong's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Wong's back!

Wong tries to roll but Gatic sticks to his back.
Wong wants to get back to his feet.

Gatic is looking for the choke from the back position but Wong is controlling his hands well.
Wong wants to control his opponent's hands but Gatic gets his hands free.
Wong is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Gatic is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Gatic tries to keep control of the position but Wong is staying busy.

Wong can't escape the position.
Wong trying to control the position but Gatic manages to sink in the hooks.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Gatic tries to get the hooks in deep but Wong pushed the leg off.
Gatic keeps control of the position easily here as Wong tries to buck him off.
You can see the frustration on Wong's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.

Gatic is trying to stick to Wong's back but Wong is turning into Gatic. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Gatic's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Wong.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Wong drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Gatic looking for a sweep. Not yet Gatic, not yet.
Wong postures up.
Wong wants to control from the top but Gatic keeps moving.

Wong thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Gatic keeping moving, preventing Wong from controlling successfully.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Wong scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
Wong looking to sit in guard and control but Gatic gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Wong manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Gatic manages to get himself to full guard.

Wong thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Gatic utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Wong drops back looking for a leg! Gatic is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Gatic manages to kick Wong off! Wong jumps back into Gatic's guard.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Gatic is adopting a defensive guard.
Gatic is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Wong wants to control from the top but Gatic keeps moving.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Wong would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Alexander Gatic has got the better of the ground game so far.

Wong trying to control but Gatic is working from the bottom.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Wong keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Gatic connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Wong's hands.
Gatic fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Gatic is breathing heavily.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Wong changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Gatic fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Gatic tries for a takedown but Wong sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Tykas Wong has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Alexander Gatic.
Wong shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Gatic as he jumps to the side.
Wong takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Gatic tries to clinch but Wong moves out of range.

Gatic tries to sprawl but Wong drives through with a takedown into half guard.

Gatic has managed to escape just enough to sneak back to his feet but Wong is on him like a limpet, forcing Gatic back against the cage.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Tykas Wong will probably get the nod.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!

Gatic shoots for a double leg takedown but Wong sprawls well. He's pushed Gatic's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Nice takedown defense from Wong. No joy for Gatic on that attempt.

Wong shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Gatic as he jumps to the side.
Wong stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Wong wants it to stay on the feet.
Tykas Wong has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Alexander Gatic.

Gatic takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Wong closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Gatic's guard.

Wong is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Wong wants to pass the guard but Gatic is keeping the position.

Gatic looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Wong drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Gatic manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Wong has Gatic in his guard.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Wong looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Gatic passes into side control.
Gatic wants to control but Wong is keeping him busy.
Wong is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Gatic wants to take a breather but Wong manages to regain guard - a lesson learnt for Gatic.

Wong looking for a guillotine here but Gatic defends easily.
Gatic passes Wong's left leg - he's now in half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Gatic is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.
Wong is looking to improve his position.
Gatic tries to pass the half guard into mount. Wong knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Wong is trying to control but Gatic manages to pass to mount!

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Wong wants to hold on but Gatic pushes him away.

And that's the end of the fight!
Alexander Gatic comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Gatic has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
