PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jack Sullivan (ranked 1796 p4p, 1412 weight class) and Eugeniy Tryastsyn (ranked 237 p4p, 189 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jack Sullivan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Eugeniy Tryastsyn!
The judges for this bout are Donatello Bradman, Francis DeMontford and Darius Henderson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sullivan throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Tryastsyn sees it coming and avoids it easily.
A big left from Tryastsyn misses.
Tryastsyn swings for the body but Sullivan moves out of range.
Tryastsyn throws the left hand but Sullivan avoids the punch easily.
Sullivan throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Tryastsyn throws a jab but it's blocked by Sullivan.
A counter left hand to the body from Sullivan misses its target.
Tryastsyn throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Nice defenses there by Tryastsyn.

Tryastsyn shoots in and gets a takedown into Sullivan's guard.

The fighters are working up against the cage. Sullivan manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage.
A nice right hand lands inside from Sullivan.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Sullivan misses with a punch to the body.

Tryastsyn manages to break the clinch.
Tryastsyn goes for a double leg but Sullivan avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Sullivan continues to drive forward.

Tryastsyn closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Sullivan did well to prevent Tryastsyn getting side control.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Tryastsyn thows a huge punch but Sullivan dodges it nicely.

Sullivan kicks Tryastsyn off and gets back to his feet.
Tryastsyn has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.

We've been told by Sullivan's head coaches at SSJ Gym that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.

Tryastsyn looks to score with a jab to the body but Sullivan is just out of range.
It looked like Sullivan was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from Tryastsyn.

Tryastsyn bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Tryastsyn throws an elbow but Sullivan slips to the side and avoids it well.

Sullivan is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Tryastsyn's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
Sullivan is controlling Tryastsyn's trapped leg to prevent Tryastsyn from advancing to side control.
Sullivan is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Tryastsyn's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Tryastsyn's back!
Tryastsyn looks to control his opponent's hands but he's not mananging it at the moment.

Sullivan controlling the position well here. Tryastsyn rolled but Sullivan kept the hooks locked in and stayed in the dominant position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Sullivan is looking cool and calm here, just waiting for a good opportunity to attack and finish the fight from this dominant position.
Sullivan doesn't have the hooks in and Tryastsyn manages to turn into his guard.

Sullivan uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Tryastsyn.

Sullivan lands a big head kick that sends Tryastsyn tumbling to the mat! Sullivan takes a step backwards and waves Tryastsyn back to his feet - he wants the finish!

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Sullivan is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Tryastsyn can do to turn this around?

Sullivan wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Tryastsyn working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Sullivan's head.
Sullivan utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Jack Sullivan overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Tryastsyn looking to sit in guard and control but Sullivan gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Sullivan is pressing down on Tryastsyn's thigh, looking to free his foot. Tryastsyn is holding on for now.
Tryastsyn is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Sullivan looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

Tryastsyn is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Sullivan pulls his head out easily.

Tryastsyn is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Sullivan's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Sullivan's back!
Sullivan wants to control his opponent's hands but Tryastsyn gets his hands free.
Tryastsyn is throwing strikes from the back here. Oh that last one was to the back of the head. Tryastsyn gets a warning from the referee. He throws another strike to the back of the head straight away though and the referee has seen enough. He breaks up the two fighters and stands them back up. Tryastsyn gets a real talking to here and is lucky not to get a point deducted. Tryastsyn apologises and we restart here on the feet.

Tryastsyn shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Sullivan's guard.

That was a close second round but I would say that Jack Sullivan will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Sullivan pulls Tryastsyn in close to prevent any damage.
Eugeniy Tryastsyn has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Sullivan manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Tryastsyn manages to get himself to full guard.


Tryastsyn isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Sullivan stacks Tryastsyn on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Sullivan!

Well Sullivan has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
