Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Hurricane Defoe (ranked 827 p4p, 910 weight class) and Gotan Wasselach (ranked 115 p4p, 126 weight class). Wasselach is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Time Is On My Side by Maze. Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Wasselach lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
Defoe lands with a hook. Wasselach tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.

It looks like Gotan Wasselach has been cut.
Wasselach moves out of range of the body kick from Defoe.
Wasselach throws an overhand right that lands on Defoe's shoulder, as Defoe tries to avoid the shot.
Defoe takes a kick to the body and keeps moving.
Wasselach misses with an uppercut. Defoe saw that one coming.

The fighters circle momentarily. Wasselach darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.

We've been informed that Wasselach has been sparring a lot of Muay Thai in the buildup to this fight so let's see if that has an impact on the result.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Gotan Wasselach seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Wasselach lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

Oh Defoe is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Defoe fakes a jab and scores with a low kick.
Defoe seems to have got his legs back now.
Wasselach lands an overhand right.
Defoe walks straight into a right hand from Wasselach - that's dropped him! Wasselach jumps into mount and starts pounding away - can he finish?! More strikes go undefended and the referee has to dive in to save Defoe from any more punishment! Defoe complains about the stoppage but falls over as he tries to stand back up, so it was clearly a good stoppage.
