PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Curtis Rome (ranked 3771 p4p, 23652 weight class) and Bruno Sultan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Curtis Rome!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Bruno Sultan !
The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Chris Downing and Alan Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Sultan gets a double leg takedown into Rome's guard.
Sultan is looking to work some ground and pound but Rome has wrist control.
Sultan throws an elbow that misses. Rome uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Sultan 's guard. Nice move by Rome!

Rome stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Sultan swivels though and keeps the full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Sultan looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Rome sitting in guard here, content to control.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Sultan not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Rome throws a big elbow that misses.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Sultan preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Rome is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Rome advances to half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Rome is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Sultan trying to control from the bottom.
Rome trying to control the pace.

Rome is looking for a kimura here.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Sultan is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Rome feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Rome sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Rome is looking to advance position but Sultan has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!


That's four minutes gone in the round.
The referee warns Rome that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
A nice elbow there by Sultan .
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Rome manages to regain half guard. Good work.
Sultan stops Rome from getting back to his feet.
Sultan missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
Rome is looking to escape.
Sultan wants to control but Rome is keeping him busy.
Rome blocking the ground and pound attempt from Sultan .
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Rome slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Sultan loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Curtis Rome dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Sultan tries for a takedown but Rome circles away easily
and Rome counters with a stiff right hand.

Rome closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Rome is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Sultan can do to turn this around?
Sultan is trying to get back to half guard.
Rome throwing ground and pound but whilst doing so, he forgets to control position and Sultan works his way back to half guard. Good composure under pressure.
Rome not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Still in half guard, Rome seems content to control.
Curtis Rome overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Rome passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Sultan !
Rome tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Sultan is wriggling around here but as he tries to escape, Rome has taken his back.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Sultan is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Rome gets his way!
Rome is riding his opponent, not letting Sultan buck him off.

Rome working for a choke but Sultan is defending well.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
I would not like to be Sultan right now.
Rome has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Rome struggling to land strikes to the head as Sultan covers up.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Rome is working on the RNC. He looks like he's got it but Sultan won't tap... Oh, he's out! The ref rips Rome off his unconscious opponent!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:30 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Curtis Rome!
A relieved looking Curtis Rome thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
