PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Glover Levangasti (ranked 1434 p4p, 1482 weight class) and Josiah Frank (ranked 186 p4p, 193 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Glover Levangasti!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Josiah Frank!
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Alan Glass and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Levangasti shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Frank as he avoids it easily.
Frank connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Levangasti's hands.
Levangasti looks for a takedown but Frank sprawls well.
Frank just misses with a punch to the body.
Levangasti needs to keep his hands up - Frank had a free shot at his head there.
Levangasti avoids the body shot from Frank.
Levangasti uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Frank.
Frank misses with a straight left.
Levangasti appears to be looking for a counter punch to the body.
Frank throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Levangasti changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Frank tries to avoid it but Levangasti manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Frank to the ground. Frank escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Levangasti closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Frank did well to prevent Levangasti getting side control.

Frank really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Levangasti. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Levangasti is taking a breather. Frank says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Frank lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Levangasti.
Frank catches Levangasti with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!
Frank throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Levangasti on the side of the head.

Frank looks to score with a jab to the body but Levangasti is just out of range.

Frank lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Levangasti circles away quickly and effectively.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Frank uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Levangasti has time to react.
Frank cracks Levangasti with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.

That's time! Levangasti's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Frank throws out a loose jab but Levangasti uses good head movement to avoid it.
Levangasti looks for a takedown but Frank sprawls well.

Frank rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Levangasti moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Levangasti dives in and grabs Frank's left leg, looking for a takedown. Frank pushes down on Levangasti's head and hops out.

Glover Levangasti overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Frank takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Frank parries the strikes from Levangasti easily there. Levangasti is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Frank to escape.
Levangasti remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Frank felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.

Levangasti seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Frank for as long as he can get away with.
