PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between David Scott (ranked 1069 p4p, 2260 weight class) and Johnny Saigon (ranked 149 p4p, 303 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Saigon's choice of entrance music: Run through the jungle. Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, David Scott!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 6 - 1, fighting out of Helsinki, Johnny Saigon!
The judges for this bout are Phil Schofield, James Atkins and Donald Grub.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Scott throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Saigon stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Saigon's coach down at IMMA Gym of Elite ASS was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Saigon's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.
Saigon lands an overhand right.

Scott gets the takedown into side control.
Saigon is looking to regain half guard here but Scott keeps moving and retains side control.

Scott looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Saigon is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

Scott is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Saigon is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Saigon manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.

Saigon wants to control but Scott is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Scott is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Saigon has managed to free his arm - good work.
Scott is thwarting Saigon's attempts to control the position.
Scott perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Scott is pressing down on Saigon's thigh, looking to free his foot. Saigon is holding on for now.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Saigon looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Scott is controlling the pace.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters, thinking about a standup.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Saigon keeping control of the leg, stopping his opponent passing to mount.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.
Scott tries to clinch but Saigon moves out of range.
Scott looks to score with a jab to the body but Saigon is just out of range.

Scott gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Saigon lands a hook to the side of the head.
Scott lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage.
With the fighters clinched against the cage, Scott creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.
Saigon lands with a short shot to the head.
A battle for position here, against the cage.

Scott works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.

Saigon throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Scott escapes and throws Saigon's legs to the side, diving into side control!
Saigon is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Scott's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Scott in particular looking to stall.
Saigon tries to roll over but Scott keeps him under control.

Scott controlling the pace.
Saigon is looking to control Scott's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Saigon avoid being mounted?
Scott wants to pass the guard but Saigon is defending well.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Scott content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Saigon regains full guard. Nicely done.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

David Scott dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action.

Scott tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Saigon paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Scott shoots in for a takedown but Saigon shows good takedown defense.
A left lands for Saigon.
A jab from Scott misses.
Saigon bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
Scott shoots in for a double leg but Saigon sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Scott looks to score with a jab to the body but Saigon is just out of range.

Saigon cracks Scott with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.
Scott lands a really nice looking cross but Saigon seems unphased.

Scott takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Scott misses with a straight right.
Saigon takes a body punch but keeps moving.
Scott swinging wildly here.
Saigon let fly with a counter punch to the body but it didn't land.

Scott forces Saigon back against the cage and clinches.
Saigon has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight.
A nice right hand lands inside from Scott.
Scott fails to pull guard.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for David Scott. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Saigon throws a hook to the body. More of an arm punch but it's all scoring with the judges.
Scott jumps guard but Saigon stands there with Scott around his waist. Scott gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Saigon is looking to break free of the clinch but Scott has double underhooks.
Scott fails to land with a short punch on the inside.

Saigon tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Scott avoids it.
Scott pushes Saigon back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head.

Scott is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Saigon can do to turn this around?

Scott tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Scott swings wildly with an uppercut but Saigon uses good head movement to avoid it.

Scott takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Scott throws a body punch but Saigon moves out of range.
Scott is looking to clinch but Saigon is avoiding it.
Scott lands with a good body shot.
Saigon connects with a good right hand that stumbles Scott. Scott circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
Johnny Saigon seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Scott shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Saigon sprawls well. Saigon wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Scott gets slowly back to his feet.
Scott looks to land a left hand but Saigon moved out of range nicely.

Scott has taken the fight to the clinch.
Saigon scores with an uppercut up the middle.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Johnny Saigon will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!

Scott swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Scott lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
Scott tries to clinch but Saigon is having none of it.
Saigon appeared to try and counter that last move with a leg kick.

Scott darts in and clinches Saigon up against the cage.
Saigon tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
I was talking to Scott's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.
Scott can't get the takedown.
Scott jumps guard but Saigon stands there with Scott around his waist. Scott gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Scott tries to throw a body punch but Saigon avoids it by throwing Scott back against the cage.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Scott slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Saigon is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

Scott is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Saigon will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.
Saigon is trying to control Scott's posture but Scott avoids it.
Scott just content to control the position.

Scott thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Saigon is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Scott slows the pace down.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Saigon is looking for a sweep.
Saigon is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Scott off and has taken his back!
Saigon punches the canvas rather than the man.
Scott staying busy and making it hard for Saigon to control.
Scott wants to escape the position.
Saigon struggling to land strikes to the head as Scott covers up.
Saigon somehow managing to miss with a strike from the back.
Scott trying to control the position but Saigon manages to sink in the hooks.
Scott breaks Saigon's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.
Scott controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

Saigon trying to keep a closed guard but Scott is proving a slippery customer.

Saigon looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Saigon working a defensive guard but Scott manages to pass into side control anyway.
Scott in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time.
Saigon tries to buck Scott off but Scott is having none of it.
Saigon sneaks back into half guard.

Scott looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Scott content to control rather than advance.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Scott wants to pass the guard but Saigon is defending well.

And that's the end of the fight!
David Scott showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Scott has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
