PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Samson Komua (ranked 2198 p4p, 18352 weight class) and Dustin Poirier (ranked 298 p4p, 661 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Komua might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Fangai Lupe. Poirier is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by The Boss- James Brown. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Poirier throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
A little feinted left hand from Komua on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
Poirier takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
Poirier swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Komua misses with a wild body shot.
A head kick by Poirier misses
and Komua counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Poirier tries a head kick but it misses.
Poirier tries to move into range but Komua moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.
Poirier takes a jab right on the kisser.

It looks like Dustin Poirier has been cut.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Poirier lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Komua circles away quickly and effectively.
Komua has been working on his boxing with his coaches at Rabid Dog in the buildup to the fight.
Poirier misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Komua lands a big right hand that sends Poirier crashing to the mat! Komua stays standing though and waves Poirier back to his feet!

Komua lands a big uppercut and Poirier crumbles to the floor! The ref thinks about stopping the fight but Poirier looks OK. Komua waves Poirier back to his feet!
Poirier is still on wobbly legs! Can Komua finish him?
Komua digs a good hook to Poirier's body.

and Komua counters with a nice right hand that sends Poirier toppling to the canvas! Poirier scrambles and gets back to his feet - can Komua finish him?!

That has opened up Dustin Poirier's cut even more.
Poirier looks winded!
Komua lands hard precision jab right on the jaw that stiffens Poirier up and sends him tumbling to the mat! The ref grabs Komua from behind before he can pounce. Some folks in the crowd didn't like that stoppage, but I saw Poirier's eyes roll way back in his head, he was done.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:55 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Samson Komua!
An out of breath Samson Komua thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
