PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Kristof Pardi (ranked 1017 p4p, 1267 weight class) and Mawvin Vetorwee (ranked 115 p4p, 138 weight class). Pardi's entrance music is Party Boy Theme. A fine choice. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 4 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Kristof Pardi!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Mawvin Vetorwee!
The judges for this bout are Phil Schofield, James Ackerman and Daniel Bishop.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pardi slips under a jab.
Vetorwee scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Pardi doesn't seem bothered though.
Vetorwee jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Nice defenses there by Pardi.
Pardi throwing a counter right hand but Vetorwee manages to avoid it.
Vetorwee looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.
A swing and a miss from Vetorwee.
Vetorwee uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Pardi.
Vetorwee lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
A looping hook to the body misses from Vetorwee. Pardi does a little dance to reset his feet.
Vetorwee dodges the punch combination from Pardi.
Pardi takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
Vetorwee throws a hook to the side of Pardi's head but Pardi sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Vetorwee throws the left hand but Pardi avoids the punch easily.
Vetorwee misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Pardi.
Pardi gets the takedown into side control.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Pardi working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.
Vetorwee sneaks back into half guard.
Vetorwee felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.
Pardi working over Vetorwee with some ground and pound. Vetorwee looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Vetorwee is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Pardi passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Vetorwee!
Vetorwee tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Vetorwee keeps trying to improve his position.
Pardi manages to capitalize on a mistake by Vetorwee to take his back!
Pardi is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.
Vetorwee can't escape the position.
Pardi has his opponent's back but Vetorwee is looking to stand. He manages to get to his feet and shakes off Pardi.
That's two minutes gone in the round.
Vetorwee throws a hook to the side of Pardi's head but Pardi sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
A big left from Vetorwee misses.
Vetorwee misses the shot to the body.
Pardi lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Vetorwee misses with a hook.
Pardi moves out of range of the strikes.
Pardi looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Vetorwee scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Vetorwee on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.
Vetorwee swings for the body but Pardi moves out of range.
Pardi fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Vetorwee on the side of the head.
Vetorwee looks to throw the jab but Pardi is out of range.
Pardi shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Vetorwee's guard.
Vetorwee looking for a guillotine here but Pardi defends easily.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Pardi looking to pass the guard.
Pardi landing with the ground and pound.
Vetorwee looking to try and escape his hips here, looking for a submission. It looks like he's going for a triangle but Pardi is defending well. Vetorwee quickly switches to an armbar and extends the arm! Pardi has no choice but to tap, to a very quick submission! Wow, that was lightning fast! Vetorwee celebrates on the cage, with the crowd.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:18 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Mawvin Vetorwee!
Mawvin Vetorwee looked relieved post fight as he said the following; 'The bosses will appreciate this belt back home.'.
