Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Shingen Takeda (ranked 2412 p4p, 5001 weight class) and Jake Turman (ranked 310 p4p, 505 weight class). The key to victory for Shingen Takeda has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice sprawl there from Takeda as Turman shoots in.
Turman fails with the takedown
and Takeda connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Takeda scores with a jab to the jaw.
Turman tries to clinch up
and Takeda connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.

Turman has managed to clinch.
Takeda misses with the head strike.
Takeda blocks a punch to the side of the head.
Takeda has a couple of punches blocked by Turman.
I was talking to Takeda's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.

Turman misses with some punches.
Turman wants to get back to striking at distance but Takeda won't allow it.
Takeda working some nice short punches in the clinch.
A head punch blocked on the inside by Turman.
Takeda misses with a hook from the clinch.

Takeda keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Turman's efforts to push away.
Takeda lands an uppercut.

Takeda swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Turman tries to break free but Takeda pushes him back against the cage.

Turman breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Turman shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Takeda as he jumps to the side.
Shingen Takeda has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jake Turman.

Turman moves into range and clinches up with Takeda.
Takeda lands a shot to the body.
A short left from Takeda.
A nice right hand lands inside from Takeda.
Takeda lands with a short shot to the head.
Takeda lands a nice looking hook to the body, against the cage.
Turman is trying to break the clinch but Takeda has him pressed against the cage.
Turman has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Takeda has a couple of punches blocked by Turman.
A head punch on the inside from Takeda fails to land.

Turman pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Takeda stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Takeda wants it to stay on the feet.
A quick step to the side and Takeda tries to counter with a shot to the body but it doesn't connect.
Turman shoots and misses
and Takeda counters with a nice body kick.
Turman looks winded!
Turman darts in looking for a takedown but Takeda gets double underhooks and turns Turman into the cage.
Jake Turman seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Turman takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Takeda stuns Turman with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
A cross from Takeda lands.
Takeda lands an overhand right.

Takeda clinches up with Turman and pushes him back against the cage.
Takeda misses with a punch on the inside.
Takeda is pressed up against the cage. Turman has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Takeda down to the mat. Takeda avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Turman drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.
Takeda throws a head kick that half lands.
Turman dives in and grabs Takeda's left leg, looking for a takedown. Takeda pushes down on Turman's head and hops out.

Takeda shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Takeda showed some decent athleticism there.

Takeda seems to be working for a kimura but Turman defends the submission attempt.

Takeda is working for a submission here. He's got hold of the far side arm and he's looking for a kimura. He's cranking on the arm and he's got it! Turman is tapping out! Ouch, that looked like it hurt!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:59 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Shingen Takeda!

After winning the bout, Shingen Takeda thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
