PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Virgin Mary (ranked 6602 p4p, 23981 weight class) and Rico Salvacion (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 23 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Virgin Mary!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 24 - 2, fighting out of Las Vegas, Rico Salvacion!
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, George Francis and Alan Glass.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Salvacion.
Mary throws a quick counter kick to the body but Salvacion avoids it.

Mary manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Salvacion on his heels. He'll look to pass Salvacion's guard now, I'm sure.

Mary decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Mary shoots in for a takedown but Salvacion shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Salvacion defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Mary.
Salvacion replies with a solid counter kick to the body but Mary blocks it well.

Salvacion moves out of range of the body kick from Mary.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Mary.
Salvacion tries to bench press Mary off him but Mary keeps the position.
Salvacion wants to control but Mary postures up.

Mary stands up and beckons Salvacion to his feet.
Mary shoots in but no luck this time.
Salvacion thinks about the counter body kick.

Mary looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Salvacion is fending him off so far but Mary persists. Nope, Salvacion circles away and we're back to standing.
Salvacion raises up his leg as if looking to counter with a high kick.

Mary decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Salvacion gets full guard.
Salvacion looking for a sweep. Not yet Salvacion, not yet.
Mary content to stall in guard here.
Mary would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Salvacion tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Salvacion managing to control the position.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Mary closes the distance and clinches up with Salvacion, looking for a takedown. Mary pushes Salvacion against the cage but Salvacion circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Salvacion follows through with a counter body kick but it doesn't land.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Mary keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Salvacion shoots in looking for a takedown. Mary tries to sprawl out of it but Salvacion keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Mary manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

Mary misses with a takedown
and Salvacion counters with a body kick that brings a smile to the face of both fighters.
Mary shoots in but no luck this time.
Mary shoots for a double leg takedown but Salvacion sprawls well. He's pushed Mary's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Virgin Mary. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Salvacion fails in his attempt to clinch.
Mary throws a quick counter head kick but Salvacion was just out of range.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Mary enables Salvacion to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Mary manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

The fighters are working up against the cage. Mary manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage.

Mary manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Mary can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Salvacion controls the pace.
Salvacion is continuing to stall.
Mary keeping moving, preventing Salvacion from controlling successfully.
Mary on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Mary tries to get out of the position.

Salvacion is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Mary fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Salvacion sprawls well initially but Mary persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Salvacion has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Mary is working away from the top position though.
Salvacion is looking to improve his position.
Salvacion wants to get back to full guard but Mary has mounted him!

Salvacion gets back to half guard.
Mary wants to stand up but Salvacion is controlling the position.
Mary is taking a breather. Salvacion says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Virgin Mary dominated that second round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!

Mary shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Salvacion sprawls well. Salvacion wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Mary gets slowly back to his feet.
Salvacion feints the counter takedown.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Salvacion is defended easily by Mary.
It appears Mary was looking to counter with a kick there.

Salvacion throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Mary was covering up waiting for the punch and Salvacion finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Mary is looking to stand up but Salvacion isn't so interested in that idea.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Salvacion trying to control but Mary is working from the bottom.
Mary pulls Salvacion in close to his closed guard and prevents Salvacion from doing any damage or advancing position.

Mary has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Salvacion has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage.
Mary has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Mary drops down looking for an ankle pick but Salvacion pulls his leg out and moves away.

Mary gets the takedown into side control.

Salvacion tries to bench press Mary off him but Mary keeps the position.
Virgin Mary is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Mary decides to stand back up. Mary steps back and let's Salvacion get back to his feet.
Rico Salvacion has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Salvacion fails to land the takedown.

And that's the end of the fight!

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Mary, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
