CWC 253 PBP Commentary |
This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the lightweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of Las Vegas, with a TWGC record of 10 wins and 7 losses; Yuri Boshtok! And in the blue corner, fighting out of New York, with a TWGC record of 20 wins and 14 losses; Morrison Lee! The judges for this bout are Daniel Cesar, Seu Braga and Luis Engracia.
The fighters bow as they face eachother in the middle of the mat and we are under way.
Lee manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Boshtok on his heels. He'll look to pass Boshtok's guard now, I'm sure. Score +2 for takedown into guard / half guard: Boshtok (0) vs (2) Lee Lee showing good wrestling skills to control the position. Boshtok keeping moving, preventing Lee from controlling successfully. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Lee wants to pass the guard but Boshtok is keeping the position.
 That's one minute gone in the round. Boshtok seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now. We've been hearing good reports from Boshtok's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today. Lee trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Lee not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up. It looks like Lee might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

Boshtok tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Lee had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Boshtok defends it easily. Lee looking for a sweep. Not yet Lee, not yet.

 That's four minutes gone in the round. Lee is looking to reverse the position. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. You can see the frustration on Lee's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Lee being controlled for a moment. Lee gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard. Boshtok with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
 That's five minutes gone in the round. Boshtok trying to pass the guard but Lee defending well. Boshtok takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position. Lee is looking to improve his position.
Boshtok trying to control the pace. Boshtok seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Lee for as long as he can get away with. Lee tries to get to full guard but Boshtok has control of the leg.

Boshtok is looking to stall here but Lee recovers full guard. Boshtok slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.  That's seven minutes gone in the round. Boshtok sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Lee's guard. Lee is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Boshtok controlling the action here. Lee has found himself in a tricky position here. He's been working his transitions in training so let's see if he can work his way out of it. Lee wants to improve his position but Boshtok is controlling well.

Lee keeping moving, preventing Boshtok from controlling successfully. Boshtok looking to pass the guard. Boshtok slips nicely into half guard. Boshtok trying to control from half guard but Lee is working away. Boshtok content to control rather than advance.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Boshtok is trying to control. Lee wants to improve his position but can't escape this time. Boshtok wants to pass to mount but Lee is defending the position. The fighters are battling for position here. Lee manages to regain full guard. Nice work. Boshtok content to stall in guard here. Lee wants to sweep but no luck. Boshtok controlling from the top position. Lee is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.  That's eleven minutes gone in the round. Lee is looking to stall here but Boshtok recovers full guard. Boshtok can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Lee controls the pace. Boshtok keeping full guard, as Lee tries to pass. Lee is looking to advance position but Boshtok has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!  That's twelve minutes gone in the round. Lee tries to reverse the position but Boshtok maintains control. Boshtok controlling from mount. Boshtok continues to stall. Lee tries to lock up and control but Boshtok gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away. Lee is working to get back to half guard.
Boshtok looking to control and managing it successfully. Lee sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.
 That's thirteen minutes gone in the round. Boshtok content to control rather than advance. Lee is refusing to be controlled, as Boshtok sits in half guard. Boshtok looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding. Lee trying to control here.

 That's fourteen minutes gone in the round. Lee works his way to full guard. Good work. Boshtok is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position. Lee wants to sweep here but Boshtok controlling him for the moment. Boshtok works a leg free and moves into half guard. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Well, if Boshtok is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight� I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza� Yum. And that's the end of the fight! Boshtok takes the fight on points by 9 to 4. A very excited looking Yuri Boshtok made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction. |
