This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the light heavyweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of Montreal, with a TWGC record of 15 wins and 14 losses; Tsuyoi Kakuto! And in the blue corner, fighting out of Las Vegas, with a TWGC record of 6 wins and 9 losses; Charley Hanagan!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Cesar, Paulo Santos and Mauricio Rocha.


The fighters bow as they face eachother in the middle of the mat and we are under way.

Hanagan shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Kakuto manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

My spies in Marty Robbin's Fight Ranch inform me that Hanagan has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!

Hanagan uses his free foot to push down on Kakuto's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Kakuto.

Hanagan tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Kakuto sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.

Kakuto is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Hanagan gets his way!
Hanagan is trying to stick to Kakuto's back but Kakuto is turning into Hanagan. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Hanagan's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Kakuto.

During a confident post fight interview, Charley Hanagan thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
