Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Romulus Gerber (ranked 1713 p4p, 1425 weight class) and Peter Smart (ranked 245 p4p, 206 weight class). The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 14 - 10 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Romulus Gerber!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Peter Smart!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Bishop, Phil Schofield and Donald Grub.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smart lands with a shot to the body.
Gerber attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin.
Smart has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Gerber.
Gerber steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Smart.
Gerber quickly followed up with a counter body kick but doesn't connect.
Gerber has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.
Smart moves into range and connects with a jab.
Peter Smart seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Gerber looks to land a body kick but Smart moved away.

Smart darts in and clinches Gerber up against the cage.

Smart has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Gerber avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Smart tightens his grip and picks Gerber up, before dumping him to the ground. Gerber manages to land in guard.

The fighters are working up against the cage. Gerber manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage.
Smart swings wildly with an uppercut but Gerber uses good head movement to avoid it.

Smart decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Smart tries to free his leg and advance position but Gerber is retaining full guard.

Smart trying to control the position from guard on top but Gerber is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Smart with a flurry of punches that miss.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Smart trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Smart is working Gerber over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Gerber lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Peter Smart dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Smart connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.

A little feinted left hand from Gerber on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Gerber displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Smart throws out the jab.
Smart uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Gerber has time to react.
Smart ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Gerber moves away.

Gerber takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
Smart tries to close the distance and clinch up but Gerber swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Smart lands with a thumping leg kick.

Smart bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Gerber takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Smart sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Gerber is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
Smart content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Gerber manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Gerber is looking for a sweep. Smart is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Smart is nestled in close to Gerber, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

Smart uses his free foot to push down on Gerber's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Gerber.

Peter Smart showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!

Peter Smart is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Smart throws a push kick but Gerber slaps the foot to one side.
Gerber takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.

Smart feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Well Smart has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
