PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Dr Barney (ranked 2915 p4p, 3792 weight class) and Dwight Monthouse (ranked 165 p4p, 212 weight class). Dwight Monthouse told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

The judges for this bout are Alyssa Summers, Jorge Garcia and Eddie Farnsworth.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Monthouse slips a jab from Barney.
Barney throws out a loose jab but Monthouse uses good head movement to avoid it.
Monthouse tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
Monthouse slips a straight right by Barney.
Monthouse wants to counter with a clinch but Barney pushes him away.
Barney throws a shot from downtown. Monthouse moves away and avoids it.
Monthouse appears to be waiting to throw a counter punch to the body.
Monthouse fails to land the takedown.
Barney misses with a left hand
and Monthouse counters with a stiff right hand.
A jab from Barney does it's job there.
Monthouse throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

Monthouse darts in looking for a takedown but Barney gets double underhooks and turns Monthouse into the cage.
Monthouse tries to clinch there but Barney circles away.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Dr Barney seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Monthouse changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Barney tries to avoid it but Monthouse manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Barney to the ground. Barney escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Monthouse displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Barney throws out the jab.

Barney's jab looks to have found its range, popping Monthouse under the eye.
Monthouse gets cracked there but stands up to it.

Monthouse fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Barney avoids it really well and circles away.
A solid leg kick lands there for Barney.

Barney takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.

Monthouse goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Monthouse is trying desperately to land a takedown but Barney is having absolutely none of it. This is turning into a bit of a nightmare for Monthouse .

With the fighters clinched against the cage, Barney creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.
