PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Frank Shewmaker (ranked 24399 p4p, 2150 weight class) and Harry Moura (ranked 642 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Frank Shewmaker!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Harry Moura!
The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, George Francis and Stewart Dunkirk.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Moura is working Shewmaker over against the cage.
Moura pushes Shewmaker back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head.
Shewmaker tries to land a knee to the head but Moura blocks with his arms.
Moura lands a left hand.
Moura lands a nice looking hook to the body, against the cage.
Shewmaker takes a shot to the head.
Shewmaker looking to throw knees to the head but Moura is blocking nicely.
The pace really dropping off here, momentarily.

Moura breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Moura tries a head kick but it misses.
Shewmaker moves forwards but Moura connects with a nice, crisp jab.
Shewmaker tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Moura manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Moura blocks a head kick by Shewmaker.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Shewmaker throws a combination that misses
and Moura cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Moura lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.

Shewmaker moves into the clinch.
Shewmaker's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button!
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Moura has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.

Moura breaks the clinch.

Shewmaker falls off balance throwing a combination

and Moura counters by moving into the clinch.
Moura lands a right hand.
Shewmaker misses with a knee to the head.
Moura blocking some punches.
Shewmaker using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Moura has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
Moura lands with a right to the head.
A head punch on the inside from Shewmaker fails to land.
Shewmaker misses with some punches.
Moura working on landing some head shots here - that one got through nicely.
A nice right hand lands inside from Moura.
Moura lands with a light punch inside.
A right handed body shot lands from Moura.
Moura lands an uppercut.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Moura lands a body punch - he's looking to wear down Shewmaker.
Shewmaker is breathing heavily.
Shewmaker misses with the head strike.
Moura digs a right hand underneath Shewmaker's ribcage. Shewmaker let out a lung full of air as it connected.
Shewmaker misses with a knee strike.

Moura pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Shewmaker throws a body kick that misses.
Shewmaker throws a head kick but Moura moves out of range.
Moura wants to counter the offense by Shewmaker and move into the clinch position.
Moura scores with a nice right hand.
Shewmaker misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Shewmaker tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Shewmaker lands with a head kick! That's gotta hurt.
Moura connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
Shewmaker lands a nice leg kick that just misses Moura's sensitive parts.
Shewmaker throws a head kick but Moura moves out of range.
A nice leg kick lands there from Moura.
Moura lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.

Moura shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Moura sitting in guard, not really doing much.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Moura drops back for a leg here. A bit of a high risk move... He's looking for a kneebar by the looks of things. Now both of them are looking for submissions. Moura seems to have locked his on tight now - Shewmaker screams in pain and taps out furiously! It certainly was a high risk move but it's paid off for Moura, as he picks up the win!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:37 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kneebar). Harry Moura!
Harry Moura decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
