PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Pauke Murhapuro (ranked 341 p4p, 321 weight class) and Felix Inarritu (ranked 53 p4p, 49 weight class). Inarritu has chosen Vulcano as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 18 - 13 - 0, fighting out of New York, Pauke Murhapuro!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 27 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Felix Inarritu!
The judges for this bout are Sosuke Kotani, Yasuomi Hirokawa and Kenichi Hosakawa.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Murhapuro gets cracked there but stands up to it.
We've been told by Murhapuro's head coaches at Räkälä that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.

and Inarritu counters with a nice leg kick.
A cross from Murhapuro lands.
Inarritu tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Murhapuro was well out of range. Poor timing from Inarritu.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

and Murhapuro counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Inarritu thinking.
Inarritu walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.

and Inarritu counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.

Pauke Murhapuro seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Inarritu throws out a counter right but Murhapuro avoids it with no problem.

Murhapuro throws an overhand right that lands on Inarritu's shoulder, as Inarritu tries to avoid the shot.
Murhapuro misses with a combination
and Inarritu counters with a nice low kick that buckles Murhapuro's knee momentarily.
Inarritu has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight.
Inarritu loads up on a big right hand but Murhapuro slips the punch.

A looping hook to the body misses from Murhapuro. Inarritu does a little dance to reset his feet.
And Inarritu responds with a good body kick, but Murhapuro manages to step out the way in time.
Inarritu misses with an uppercut.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Inarritu displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Murhapuro.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Pauke Murhapuro. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Inarritu looks to land a body kick but Murhapuro moved away.

Murhapuro closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Inarritu to the mat! Inarritu manages to get full guard.
Inarritu wants to sweep here but Murhapuro controlling him for the moment.

Murhapuro is pushing down on Inarritu's leg trying to pass to half guard. Inarritu is fighting to maintain full guard but Murhapuro has managed to sneak the leg through.

Murhapuro tries to pass the half guard into mount. Inarritu knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Inarritu slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.

Murhapuro has gone for a leg lock! Inarritu slips out almost immediately though and dives into Murhapuro's guard.


Murhapuro throws his legs up looking for a submission but Inarritu uses it to pass to side control.
Murhapuro tries to control but end up mounted... ooooh, that's bad.

Inarritu content just to control the position here.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Murhapuro has given up his back here.
Inarritu has the hooks in. Murhapuro is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.
Murhapuro trying to control the hands but Inarritu won't let him.
Inarritu is riding his opponent, not letting Murhapuro buck him off.
Inarritu is trying to stick to Murhapuro's back but Murhapuro is turning into Inarritu. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Inarritu's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Murhapuro.

That was a close round but I would say that Pauke Murhapuro will probably get the nod.
The cut man is working on Felix Inarritu's cut.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

A slow jab from Murhapuro misses its intended target.
Inarritu connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.

It looks like Pauke Murhapuro has been cut.
Murhapuro takes one to the side of the head.
Murhapuro lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
Inarritu ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Murhapuro swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Inarritu counters with a low kick, right behind Murhapuro 's knee.
Inarritu moves forwards but Murhapuro connects with a nice, crisp jab.
Murhapuro scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.

and Inarritu counters with a lovely straight right hand!

Inarritu doesn't fully commit to the body shot counter.

Inarritu sends Murhapuro crashing to the mat with a devastating uppercut! Inarritu is motioning to the referee to let Murhapuro up. He wants to try and finish this one on the feet!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Murhapuro displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Inarritu throws out the jab.

Murhapuro takes a swing at Inarritu's ribcage but misses.

Inarritu lands a left and a right that send Murhapuro crashing to the mat, dazed. Inarritu thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!

Murhapuro is rocked!
Inarritu finds Murhapuro's off switch, with a big overhand right that connects perfectly to the side of the head! Murhapuro flops back against the cage, eyes gazing into the distance. Inarritu lands an unnecessary shot before the referee has time to step in and end the fight. Brutal stuff but I'm sure Murhapuro will be OK.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:26 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Felix Inarritu!
After winning the bout, Felix Inarritu thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
