The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Backman pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Sojka lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
Sojka's corner calls for a 1, 2 combination and Sojka duly obliges.
Sojka misses with a two punch combination.
Left hook, right uppercut from Sojka.
Sojka throws a series of punches but Backman avoids them all with ease.
Sojka swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Backman.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Sojka throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Backman moves forwards but Sojka connects with a nice, crisp jab.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Backman is defended easily by Sojka.
Sojka lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!
Sojka lands the left hand.
Sojka scores with a decent looking hook.

Sojka looks to land a combination. Backman sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.
Sojka blocks the body kick.
Sojka throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

so Backman counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Backman looking to control the position here, rather than advance.

Backman thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Backman is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Backman slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Sojka wants to get back to his feet but Backman is dominant here and he's now got Sojka's back!
Backman lands a punch that was close to the back of the head but the ref thinks it's OK.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Backman is working on the RNC. He looks like he's got it but Sojka won't tap... Oh, he's out! The ref rips Backman off his unconscious opponent!
