PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Hayato Watanabe (ranked 4905 p4p, 5309 weight class) and Amri Mbeki (ranked 157 p4p, 173 weight class). Mbeki comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Judas (Audio) kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Hayato Watanabe!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Amri Mbeki!
The judges for this bout are Joseph Jones, Eddie Farnsworth and Alyssa Summers.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Mbeki moves into range and clinches up with Watanabe.
Watanabe jumps guard but Mbeki stands there with Watanabe around his waist. Watanabe gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
A short body shot lands from Mbeki as the two fighters clinch.

Mbeki gets a trip takedown into half guard.
Watanabe is trying is best to control the position here.
Mbeki is just content to waste time from the top position. Watanabe takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.
Watanabe on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Watanabe tries to get out of the position.
Watanabe looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Mbeki puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
Mbeki is looking to take a break and control but Watanabe is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Watanabe tries to roll over but Mbeki keeps him under control.

Mbeki moves into side control, avoiding a weak kimura attempt from Watanabe.

Watanabe tries to bench press Mbeki off him but Mbeki keeps the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Mbeki tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.
Both fighters take a look at the clock.
Watanabe sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Mbeki prevents Watanabe from improving his position.
Mbeki lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Mbeki wants to lay and pray for a moment but Watanabe keeps working.
Watanabe might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Watanabe tries to get to full guard but Mbeki has control of the leg.

Still in half guard, Mbeki seems content to control.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Watanabe wants to clinch.

Watanabe darts in and clinches Mbeki up against the cage.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Watanabe is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Mbeki to keep the fight standing.

Watanabe trying to control but Mbeki is working from the bottom.
Mbeki not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Watanabe pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Mbeki is keeping the position for now.
Watanabe won't allow Mbeki to sweep him here.
Watanabe has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Mbeki has his foot on Watanabe's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Watanabe works his way back into a safe position though.
Watanabe is looking to advance position but Mbeki has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!

Watanabe is in all sorts of trouble here.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Amri Mbeki dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Watanabe drops his hands momentarily and Mbeki takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.

Watanabe moves into the clinch.
Some stalling of biblical proportions here from Mbeki.
Watanabe is trying to pull guard but Mbeki has him pressed against the cage.

Mbeki works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.
Mbeki wants to control from the top but Watanabe keeps moving.
Watanabe not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Watanabe is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Mbeki is aware though and is defending well.

Watanabe has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Mbeki is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Watanabe.

Mbeki is trying for a kimura here. Watanabe looks like he's in a lot of pain... and he's tapping out! Mbeki wins by kimura!
