Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Jewel Diaz (ranked 423 p4p, 590 weight class) and Steven Christie (ranked 45 p4p, 66 weight class). Diaz's entrance music is Andre Nickatina, Drought Season. A fine choice. Christie has chosen Amityville as his entrance music. Jewel Diaz is staring across the cage at his opponent, tweaking his nipples... Tweaking his own nipples that is.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 19 - 9 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Jewel Diaz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 15 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Steven Christie!
The judges for this bout are William Gold, Sam Margolis and James Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Diaz throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Christie's waist but Christie gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Diaz off to one side.
Christie looks to throw the jab but Diaz is out of range.
Diaz shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Christie as he avoids it easily.
Christie cracks Diaz with an open hand slap.
Christie uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Diaz has time to react.
Christie scores with a hook to the body. Diaz takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
Christie looks to land a right hand but Diaz moved out of range.
Christie throws out a loose jab but Diaz uses good head movement to avoid it.
Steven Christie seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Diaz tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Christie swivels and escapes.

I was talking to Diaz's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.

Christie's coach down at Crapollas Gym was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Christie's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.

Diaz dives in and grabs Christie's left leg, looking for a takedown. Christie pushes down on Diaz's head and hops out.
A little jabbing left from Christie on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.
Nice uppercut lands for Christie. That snapped Diaz's head back.
Diaz will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Diaz dives in and grabs Christie's left leg, looking for a takedown. Christie pushes down on Diaz's head and hops out.

Diaz is rocked!
Christie lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Oh Diaz is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!

Christie is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Diaz accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Diaz throws an elbow that misses. Christie uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Diaz's guard. Nice move by Christie!

Diaz is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Steven Christie showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!

After winning the bout, Steven Christie thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
Jewel Diaz was interviewed post fight and said 'See me at the dispensary. '.
