PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Vitja Kostlov (ranked 3107 p4p, 25174 weight class) and Pat Poutine (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Pat Poutine is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Vitja Kostlov!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 13 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Pat Poutine!
The judges for this bout are Dirk Anderson, Sandra Marshall and Santiago Holmes.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Kostlov shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Kostlov showed some decent athleticism there.
Kostlov content to control rather than advance.

Kostlov seems to be working for a kimura but Poutine defends the submission attempt.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kostlov passes the guard and advances to mount!

Kostlov tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

Kostlov stands up from mount. Strange move.
Kostlov shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Poutine sprawls well. Poutine wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Kostlov gets slowly back to his feet.

Kostlov tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Kostlov jumps guard and drags Poutine to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

Kostlov is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Poutine presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.
Kostlov is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Poutine pulls him back up using the underhooks.

Kostlov breaks from the clinch.

Kostlov fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Poutine sprawls well initially but Kostlov persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Kostlov passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Poutine!
Kostlov lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
Kostlov is in the full mount, landing strikes.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Kostlov is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Poutine has managed to escape the submission attempt.

Poutine defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Kostlov.
Kostlov cracks Poutine with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Kostlov's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Poutine will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Kostlov wants to clinch.

Kostlov throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Poutine tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Kostlov is in Poutine's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Poutine can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Kostlov controls the pace.

Poutine is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Kostlov scores with a couple of nice shots.
Poutine is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Kostlov looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Kostlov in particular looking to stall.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Kostlov lands a nice short elbow.
Poutine has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Kostlov is working away from the top position though.

Kostlov stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.
Poutine's coach down at Cozad The Island was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Poutine's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.

Poutine slaps away a takedown attempt from Kostlov, before circling back to the center of the mat.
A countering left hand to the body from Poutine misses.
Kostlov misses the jab.
Kostlov tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Poutine was well out of range. Poor timing from Kostlov.
Poutine changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.
Kostlov is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Poutine can do to turn this around?

Kostlov bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Kostlov is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.

Kostlov stands up and beckons Poutine to his feet.
Kostlov fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Poutine jumps guard but Kostlov turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.

Kostlov gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Poutine regains guard.
Kostlov not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Kostlov gets to his feet. Poutine looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Kostlov is trying to trip Poutine. He has hold of a leg but Poutine is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Kostlov persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
Kostlov slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Vitja Kostlov overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Poutine can't keep his opponent in guard - Kostlov advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Kostlov postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Poutine to stand up.
Kostlov throws a right and a left that Poutine avoids nicely.
Poutine steps in looking to clinch after the strikes miss from Kostlov.
Kostlov shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Poutine pinned against the cage. Poutine gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Kostlov shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Poutine is trying to defend but Kostlov finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Pat Poutine has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Vitja Kostlov is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Kostlov seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Kostlov, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
