PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jhonny Boy (ranked 780 p4p, 1491 weight class) and Otto Blatz (ranked 115 p4p, 231 weight class). Otto Blatz told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Blatz lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Boy circles away quickly and effectively.
Boy attempts a counter takedown but Blatz avoids it well and moves away.
Blatz throws a nice looking combination but Boy bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

Boy is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Blatz has managed to free his arm - good work.
Blatz looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Blatz can do anything to dispel that myth.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Boy is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Blatz is just riding it out for now. Boy eventually gives up the hold.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action.

Blatz missing with a left hand there. Boy was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Boy shoots in and drives through. Blatz sprawls well.
Blatz doesn't fully commit to the body shot counter.
Blatz throws an overhand right that lands on Boy's shoulder, as Boy tries to avoid the shot.
Boy attempts a counter takedown but Blatz avoids it well and moves away.

Boy looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Boy steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Blatz.
Boy feinted with a counter takedown.
Blatz rushes in with a sloppy looking punch

and Boy decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Blatz's guard.

Blatz has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Boy has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage.
Boy is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Blatz can do to turn this around?
Blatz scores with an uppercut up the middle.
Blatz pushes Boy back against the cage and unloads with a body punch.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Blatz stops a takedown attempt from Boy.
Boy goes for a takedown in the clinch but Blatz prevents it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jhonny Boy. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Still in the clinch, Blatz scores with a nice short uppercut.
Blatz lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Boy backwards.

Boy turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!
Boy will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Blatz is looking for a sweep.

Boy tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Boy has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Boy tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.

Boy swings around for an armbar but Blatz sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Boy's guard.
Jhonny Boy overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Blatz sitting in guard here, content to control.

Boy looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Blatz must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Boy is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Blatz looking to control the position here, rather than advance.

Blatz is sitting in close to Boy's body. Boy has gone for a guillotine from the bottom. Oh damn, that looks pretty tight! Blatz is panicking - it looks like this one could be all over! Yes, Blatz is tapping! That was a very nice submission by Boy.
