PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Archie Laird (ranked 1583 p4p, 3695 weight class) and Philip Driver (ranked 241 p4p, 495 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Archie Laird!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Philip Driver!
The judges for this bout are Sandra Marshall, Winston Alpacca and Michael Johnstone.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Driver tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Laird was well out of range. Poor timing from Driver.
Laird tries to counter with a takedown but Driver is quick to defend against it.
Laird misses with a leg kick
and Driver counters with a lovely straight right hand!

Laird moves into the clinch.

Driver escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Laird feints and as Driver raises his hands in defense, Laird changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Laird loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Driver really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Laird. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Laird is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Driver wants to get back to his feet but Laird is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Laird has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Driver tries to get to full guard but Laird has control of the leg.

Driver pushes Laird off looking to stand but Laird dives back in and keeps control.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Laird closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Driver's guard.
Laird is looking to work some ground and pound but Driver has wrist control.

Driver is really trying hard to get back to his feet.

Laird lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.

Laird lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.

Laird is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Driver can do to turn this around?

Laird postures up and throws a massive shot that knocks Driver out cold! Two more strikes to his unconscious opponent for good luck and this one is all over! Laird goes absolutely crazy with his corner! Wow, you can see how much that win means to him!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:19 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Archie Laird!
An out of breath Archie Laird thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
